Nars Taos Blush – Only Suitable For Darker Skin?

SAMSUNG CSC

Nars is quite famous for their amazing and highly pigmented blushes. Today I will be giving a little review of their blush in the shade Taos, which quickly made it into my top blusher after I bought it. Taos is described as a “desert rose with shimmer” and a lot of reviews say that it is probably more suitable for medium to darker skin tones because of its very very high pigmentation. I am definitely more on the pale side when it comes to skin tones, however, I don’ think this will make you look like a clown if you are pale. You just have to be a little light handed when you apply it and if you put a bit more effort into it this can still look just as stunning on lighter skin tones.

But let’s start at the beginning. I would agree that this blush is a rose shade but more of a darker one. It is a bit similar to the Nars shade torrid but definitely more red. It has a beautiful golden shimmer to it that makes your skin glow and emphasise your cheekbones without emphasising any pores, which is something I really like! The texture is extremely silky and soft, which is perfect for blending it out. It sits so well on the skin and it lasts me all day without having to touch it up, which is something I hardly ever say about a blush. I think it lasts this long on me because I do have pretty light skin so if your skin is medium to dark skin it probably won’t last as long but I’ve read in other reviews that it lasted girls with darker complexions about 9 to 10 hours until it started to fade, which is still quite impressive. Of course I have swatted it for you guys. One is a regular swatch and the other one is how it looks blended out on the skin.

However this is highly pigmented, so a little really does go a long way and you need quite a light hand when you apply it.  I do agree that this is a blush that looks stunning on medium to dark skin but I think you can still make it work on paler skin and it can give you a subtle natural flush. I’ve tried to take pictures of how it looks on my skin and I hope my camera picked it up well enough to see. I never go really overboard on blushes because I prefer to keep it more natural. Basically I just use a tiny amount, which is all you need really, and apply in on the apple of my checks to give me that natural flushed look.

Nars Contour Blush Review

SAMSUNG CSC

Before I go any further into this I have to admit I, personally, don’t do too much of contouring. Contouring, in general, is an amazing thing because it can change your face in a way and kind of distract from features you are a bit insecure about while highlighting the features you like the most about your face. In general I’m pretty happy with my face, most of the time, (this sounds so weird) but I just don’t feel the need to make my nose look smaller or whatever. I’m also way too lazy to do a whole face of contouring. Basically all I really do is apply some dark blush under my cheekbones and sometimes, when I’m going all out, I’ll apply some contour blush along my hairline. If I really have time I also add some highlighter to my cheekbones.

Okay, now that you know my view towards contouring let’s get into this review, shall we? Since I do a bit of contouring sometimes I thought it was time to finally invest into something more expensive and a bit more professional. Since I’ve heard so many great thing about Nars I decided to give their contouring blush a go and picked it up from a Sephora store.

I got mine in Olympia, which is the lightest shade you can get, I believe. The contour blush contains two shades. A light one which is supposed to function as a highlighter and a dark one, which is, obviously, made for contouring

Let’s start of with the highlighter. The color is a very light beige ivory kind of color. In fact it is so light it might, depending on your skin, not really show up much on your face. In contrast to many other highlighters out there this is one is actually not shimmery at all but really matte. It’s actually 100% matte and will give you a matte finish. This highlighter reminds me a bit of a really light face powder. Still it did the job for me. It showed up on my skin quite well and gave it an illuminating finish, which is what a highlighter is supposed to do, right?

Moving on to the contour part. The color is a medium beige-brown color and it appears really warm ,which I quite like. For me this is the perfect shade of brown to use for contouring. It is not too light and not too dark. I tend to find it hard to find the right brown shade for contouring because if it is too light it does not really give you the effect you hoped for but if it is too dark your face will look muddy. I don’t want neither of that, please.

Both shades are really easy to blend and give your skin a perfect matte finish.

What I like about this is that it contains both, highlighter and contour, which is perfect for traveling and it comes in a handy packaging with quite the big mirror.

I’m really glad I bought this and it definitely feeds the needs of my basic contouring, so I can really recommend it.

What are your thoughts on contouring? And what are your favorite products to use?

High End Chicago Make Up Haul

SAMSUNG CSC

Being a beauty blogger from Europe doing make up shopping in the US is like heaven on earth. They just have so many more brands and choices and everything is cheaper. I swear I really had to contain myself to not buy out the entire Sephora (obviously I wouldn’t have had the money for that anyway but a girl can dream, right?). Still I did buy a few things I’ve been wanting for a while now.

Urban  Decay Naked 3 Palette

Apart from the UK and the few lucky countries that have a Sephora Urban Decay is really hard to get and since I’m currently studying abroad in the Netherlands I haven’t had a chance to buy this beauty and now I finally own it. I’ve been using it every day since I got back and I couldn’t be happier with it.

Nars Contour Blush

OMG! My very first Nars product. Nars is another brand that you can only order online in most European countries and it is quite expensive, especially if you add the high shipping cost. If I do splurge on make up I like to swatch it first and have a look at it in real life. At a Sephora I was finally able to check out their blushes and as much as I wanted all of them I did end up getting the contour blush in Olympia as I’ve had my eye on it before.

Mac Lipsticks

My first high end make up product ever was a Mac product. I still remember when my grandma took me to a Mac store and I just fell in love with the brand. I actually kind of consider Mac to be my first love make up wise. So since the lipsticks are much cheaper and I saved 7€ on each lipstick I bought I ended up getting 3. I planned on expanding my Mac lipstick collection because I do love their lipsticks and lipsticks in general are one of my favorite make up items. The choice was tough but I ended up with Diva, Rebel and Relentlessly Red (a friend of mine that came along with me picked this one after swatching tons of lipsticks). I’m in love with all 3 of them.

Benefit Sugarlicious Set

When I spotted this Benefit set I knew I had to have it because it contains 3 things I’ve been dying to try: the High Beam Highlighter, a Benetint and the Sugarbomb blush. It also contains a little lipgloss. I’m more of a lipstick person but you can never go wrong with having a good lipgloss, right?

Benefit They’re Real Mascara

Everyone’s been raving about this mascara, so naturally I’ve been wanting to try it but it’s quite expensive over here. But I took the chance a good a mini version of this at Sephora to try it out. Now the bad thing is that I really like it and I now want the full version.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get everything of my wish list as that would have been much to high a cost but I did end up getting the pieces I’ve been wanting the most, so I’m definitely happy.
