My Birthday Weekend

Hello lovelies,

how are you all? So as you may or may not know it was my birthday last Saturday and I was fortunate enough to spend it in London with my family. Now, I am one very lucky girl when it comes to my birthdays. My last three ones have been incredible and they kept getting better and I’m kind of scared that my 21st birthday is going to totally suck because all the others have been so amazing! On my 18th birthday I got the best of both worlds by being able to celebrate with my family during the day and one of my friends asked me whether she could have her birthday party that day even though it was my birthday and at first I wasn’t too keen on the idea but it turned out to be pretty amazing because basically I got to go to a party with lots of my friends on my actual birthday and the whole crowd sang happy birthday to me, which was so sweet of them. Since my 18th birthday was a day and night to remember I wasn’t really looking forward to my 19th birthday because I was in my first year at university back then and I had my midterms, so I couldn’t go home. However a really good friend of mine organised a huge surprise for me by getting together a bunch of friends and they all drove all the way to where I go to University just to surprise me. I honestly thought I had to spend my birthday all by myself writing essays so you can image my surprise when a bunch of my friends showed at my door. I was so touched I nearly cried and I hardly ever get emotional. The next day my family came to visit me and we had the most amazing day out in the city.

So my 18th and 19th have been absolutely incredible but this year it got even better. My amazing family took me to London for an entire weekend to go see the musical Wicked, which I’ve been wanting to see for ages. We arrived in London pretty early on Friday morning and after checking into the hotel we went straight to the city center. At first we just went for a little walk through St. James Park before we went shopping for a few hours. My dad absolutely hates shopping and my brother isn’t too keen on it either, so the fact that they would go into every store I wanted to go in was pretty nice of them but it was my birthday weekend after all. Basically I bought a bunch of make up. Yes, I know! Shocker! After a perfect day in the city we went to have dinner at one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants in London which was pretty good.

On the day of my birthday I had to wake up pretty early and after receiving some very lovely gifts from my family we went to have breakfast at a Starbucks close to the Tower Bridge. Afterwards we just walked along the Thames River for a while before heading back to the hotel to get ready to see Wicked. The show started at 7.30pm but our hotel was a bit further away from the center, so it always took us quite some time to go back and forth. However Wicked was absolutely incredible. I don’t listen to a lot of musical songs on a daily basis (thought I love watching musical) but I’ve always loved the song defying gravity ever since I first heard it. I think there’s just something so empowering about that song, so I couldn’t wait to see it being performed live and oh my god it was incredible. It almost made me tear up and I don’t really get emotional about things easily. Basically it’s been perfect and even better than I imagined it was going to be. I loved every single second of the musical and if I could I’d go watch it again in a heartbeat.

I’m so glad I had another magical birthday and I honestly don’t think 21 can top this. I just had the most incredible birthday weekend and I don’t even mind that I have to spend the rest of the week writing essays and studying for exams.

If you’ve been one of the lovely people who wished me a happy birthday on Twitter then thank you so much again!

Would anyone like to see a ‘What I got for my birthday post?’ I personally enjoy reading those type of posts but I know they can be quite controversial and I don’t want to be showing off, so I’m never sure if I should go for it or not. Let me know your thoughts!

Thank you for reading so much! It always means a lot!

Much love,

Sophie

London Beauty Haul

IMG_2032

Just as promised today’s post is a haul of all the make up items I purchased while in London. To some people it might look like I got a ton of stuff but I’d been saving up a bit and used some of my Christmas money to buy these things. Since moving to the Netherlands for my BA degree I unfortunately have to miss out on most of the brands included in this haul as they are either not available in the Netherlands or very hard to find, so obviously I had to take this chance to finally be able to buy some of their products again, right? I think that’s a totally valid point! Anyway… let’s get into what I bought.

IMG_2035

Revlon Lip Butters

One of the first things I bought were these 2 lip butters in the shades Sugar Plum and Candy Apple. I love the Revlon lip butters and can’t get enough of them and since they were on a 2 for 10 offer I needed to add two more to my collection.

Revlon Highlighting Palette in 030 Bronze Glow

When I spotted this it straight away reminded me of the Bobbi Brown Shimmer bricks (which I totally love), so I wanted to give it a go. This seems like a pretty versatile palette, which you can probably use as a blush, highlight and even as eyeshadows. The shades look gorgeous, so I can’t wait to give this a proper go. However, as much as I like Revlon products, after hearing about the nasty racist comments Revlon’s CEO apparently made, I don’t think I’ll be getting any more Revlon products for a while.

IMG_2036

Make Up Revolution Redemption Palette Essential Mattes

After becoming totally obsessed with the Make Up Revolution Flawless Palette I really wanted to get another one. I have a bit of a thing for shimmery eyeshadows and definitely am lacking in the matte eyeshadow department, so I figured getting the matte essentials palette would be a good thing. I’ve used it a few times now and so far I’m loving it. You can never go wrong with some matte basic eyeshadows after all. Am I right?

Make Up Revolution Vivivd Baked Bronzer

I don’t own a lot of bronzers and I don’t own a single baked one. This bronzer just looked gorgeous and it was only 4 pounds. I think it’s pretty self-explanatory why I got this!

IMG_2039

I heart Make Up Bronzer & Highlighter Hearts

I already own the peach blush from this heart shaped cheek products collection and I absolutely adore it. The pigmentation is on point and the packaging is the cutest. The main reason I got these probably is the packaging but they just look so pretty and I just hope that they will be just as great the blush I already own

I Heart Make Up I Heart Definition Palette

I have a few bronzer and highlighting palettes made for contouring but I don’t have own that includes a blush as well. This little palette is put together especially for fair skin (which I have without a doubt) and it’s super handy for traveling. I’m pretty sure I’ll be getting a lot of use out of this one.

IMG_2042

Sleek Blush By 3 in Lace

Not too long ago I reviewed or more like raved about my Blush By 3 palette in Pink Lemonade and I said that once I’d go back to the UK I would need to get more of these. Well, I did. Though I didn’t get the one I originally wanted. Actually I wanted this palette that included dark berry and red shades but I accidentally grabbed the wrong one, so you can probably imagine my surprise when I opened it up in the hotel room for the first time and saw 3 bright oranges. I have a few peach blushes but not a single one that is this orange and I have no idea whether these will even suit me (probably not) but I guess I’ll just play around with it a bit and see if I can put them to use. I have to admit though these colors look a bit scary in the pan. They are so freaking bright.

Sleek Highlighting Platte

I read a review about this one a few weeks ago and thought this palette looked absolutely stunning. In reality it looks even prettier and I’m so excited to have this. It might be one of my favorite things I bought while in London.

IMG_2044

Kate Moss in 107 Lipstick

I feel like just about every beauty blogger out there has this and it took me 4 trips to the UK to finally get my hands on it. Every single time I went into a Boots or Superdrug it was always sold out and when I finally saw it this time I grabbed it right away. It’s just such a gorgeous perfect red shade.

Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer

This is hands down one of my favorite concealers, so every time I travel to England I stock up on this as I can’t get it over here. I’ve actually bought 3 of these but one is already in use and looks crappy already.

IMG_2047

Tom Ford Lipsticks in Indian Rose & Flynn

Tom Ford lipsticks are the one thing I’ve been wanting for months now but never felt brave enough to splurge on. Over here they are a whooping 47€! I mean, what even? Still they are incredibly gorgeous and I just wanted one so badly. Since I was in London and I had some money from my budget, of how much I wanted to spend, left I finally gave in and bought one regular Tom Ford lipstick in the shade Indian Rose and one of the Lips & Boys collection in the shade Flynn. Both are just stunning! I decided to go with more neutral shades as I think I’ll definitely get more ouse out of those and if I do spend a little fortune on a lipstick I want it to be one I know will actually be worth it.

This now concludes my not so little haul. I hope you enjoyed reading this. If there is any particular item you would like to see a review on or used in a make up tutorial be sure to let me know.

Thanks so much for reading!

Love,

Sophie

Happy New Year & a little Life Update

Hey lovelies,

let me begin this post by wishing you all a very happy new year! I know it’s already the 3rd of January and I really wanted to share a blog post earlier but you now.. life gets in the way sometimes! So, I just got back from London yesterday and then today I met up with some old high school friends just to catch up, which was really nice as I hadn’t seen them in a few months.

But now back to my London trip. It was my 4th time in London and it was pretty damn awesome. I think I just have a bit of a thing for London. It’s such an amazing place. Just like last year my best friend and I stayed there for around 5 days over New Years.

Since we both have been there several times now we skipped the typical tourist stuff and just did a lot of shopping, visited some museums, the zoo and took the subway (or tube as the English they) to explore some of the more exotic parts of London, that aren’t overly crowded by tourists.

Last year we spent NYE strolling through Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park before going to watch the fireworks down by the Thames. However, this year they closed up the area around London Eye and you had to get tickets in order to watch the fireworks. But since getting back to our hotel took us around 6 hours last year because they had closed down a lot of the big underground stations, so we got stuck for around 2 hours in front of Waterloo station, I really had no desire to go through that again. I was nearly in tears last time. So, this year we spend NYE in a bar and club in one right at Leicester Square and it was a lot less stressful and much more enjoyable.

We stayed in a hotel in the Wembley area, so to get back we just had to make our way to Piccadilly Circus and take the Bakerloo line to Wembley Central and after a 7min walk we reached our hotel. I swear, last year in comparison was an absolute nightmare. After getting stuck at Waterloo for hours we had to take own overcrowded subway after the other just to miss our train. With a ton of luck we finally managed to catch a bus out of central London at 5.30.

This time we left the club at around 1 am and were back in our hotel room at around 2,30. I wish we could’ve stayed out longer but it was my first night out partying since I got out of the hospital and since I still have to take strong medication, which makes me incredibly tired I just couldn’t go any longer. But we still had an amazing time!

Obviously I did a lot of shopping as well! I can’t even count the times I went into Boots to buy some more make up. I basically spent most of my money on make up but I have no regrets! Hopefully I manage to get a little haul post up soon. I mainly bought drugstore make up apart from some Tom Ford make up but more about that in my next post.

As much fun as I had I’m glad to be back home now as the last days have been absolutely exhausting. I’m still not allowed to practice any type of sport for a while but we basically spend all day walking around in London with hardly any breaks. Usually that wouldn’t have been a problem for me but since I haven’t been very active physically because I just wasn’t allowed to it was absolutely exhausting for me and I’m now glad to be able to sleep in my own bed again and get some rest! Plus I missed blogging and I’m excited to continuing working on my blog in 2015!

Once again I hope you guys had an amazing NYE and I hope you enjoyed reading this post despite it differing a bit from my usual posts because it’s more of a life update one.

Somehow I didn’t take a lot of pictures while in London (maybe because I already have so many) so I thought I’d just my 3 favorites with you guys!

Lots of love,

Sophie

Road Trip Diary: days 2&3 – more London

On our second day in London we decided to split up. My brother and I wanted to visit the National Gallery and go back to the Tower Bridge again to take some more pictures while my parents took a 3 hour tour through the St. Paul’s cathedral. We met up at around 4pm to go back to our apartment and get some rest. At 7pm we went out for dinner to this really nice Italian restaurant. After dinner the rest of my family wanted to see what the London Eye and Big Ben look like lit up in the dark so that’s where we went.

On the third day we got up pretty early and while my brother and I visited the Tate Modern our parents went to Covent Garden. As you might be able to guess from this I really enjoy art museums. I don’t really care whether it’s 16th century art or modern art. I just like looking at the paintings and sculptures because each piece of art has it’s own story to tell and I really like to interpret it my way. I think that’s the best thing about art. Sure there’s always a description but I love to interpret it myself and find my own story within the art. I don’t know if that makes any sense but I genuinely enjoy looking at art. It ways makes me want to buy paint and get all creative but truth is I can’t draw to save my life. Guess I have to stick to just looking at paintings and writing and photography.

After checking out all the different galleries we got some lunch and chilled out in Hyde Park for a little while. At 5pm we met up with our parents but then split up again. My brother and I did some shopping on Oxford and Regent street while our parents went back to the apartment. Later we had dinner and went to the Tower Bridge. When we got back to the apartment we had to do some packing because we had to get up early to get to the airport and pick up our rented car.

Right now we’re staying at this 270 year old farm in the middle of nowhere but more of that next time. Here are some more pictures of London. Hope you enjoy!

Road Trip Diary: Day 1 – London

Hey guys!
I’m finally on vacation and I have made it to London safely! Yay! We’ll be staying in London until Friday morning before making our way further up North. Even though the first day was absolutely exhausting it’s so nice to be back here. Last night I had to get up at 3.45 am and I’d gotten about 2 hours of sleep. We landed in London pretty early and made it to where we are staying quite quickly. We’re not staying in a hotel but in an apartment, which is pretty cool because we have a kitchen and a living room, which you normally wouldn’t have. It’s so nice to be back in London though. I’ve been a few times before, so I kind of know my way around a little bit already. Obviously it doesn’t feel like coming home but it feels a lot more familiar than for example when I went to Spain or Norway. I guess this has something to do with the language as well. Even though I’m may not fit in perfectly with my American accent it’s still a lot easier to communicate with people. So since my dad and my brother have never been to London before we basically just did some typical tourist sightseeing stuff today like going to Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the Tower Bridge. At around 3pm I was feeling absolutely dead though. I’d hardly gotten any sleep the night before and I was feeling like a freaking zombie. I could barely keep my eyes open and I was so afraid of bumping into people because it was so crowded. Sure you have to count on large crowds of people in a big town like London but when I spent New Year’s there in 2014 it sure wasn’t this crowded. Maybe because it was in winter. Anyway.. Here are some pictures I took today! Hope you enjoy!

Just Some Little Things

Yesterday I have told you guys all about my stay in London and today I’m going to show you some of the things I bought during my stay. Lucky for me there were many sales in almost every store I went in. Still I didn’t buy that much because I’m trying to save more money rather than spending it all. It’s my New Years Resolution and I’m really curious how long it will last.

anyway….

it was raining and very story so the umbrella I brought unfortunately got killed by the British weather, so I had to get a new one. Besides it rains quite a lot in the Netherlands as well and since I’ll be returning to Holland on Sunday to take my final exams of this semester before my 2nd semester starts a new umbrella will come in quite handy.

Isn't it adorable?
Isn’t it adorable?

Since it was cold and windy my ears were freezing and I sure didn’t want to catch a cold. Usually I’m not much of a hat person but I fell in love with this one and it was on sale. That’s always a good argument.

IMG_2258

Just like every other tourist I had to get some souvenirs from a gift shop so I bought some key chains that I can now put next to my Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building.

IMG_2256

As I might have mentioned before I am just a little bit vain when it comes to my hair and I love love love wearing bows or cute headbands. What’s very unfortunate though is that not many people seem to wear that around where I’m currently living ( I don’t really care about that) but that makes it pretty hard to find cute hair accessories that aren’t meant for little girls. In London there were so many stores with adorable hair accessories so I just had to get some.

IMG_2257 IMG_2254

That’s it already. I just wanted to get a few things that would remind me of the great time I had in London and I believe I found some good stuff.

Have an amazing day everyone :)

I Love London

First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I just got back from London today and apart from being incredibly tired I’m kind of depressed I’m already back. London was absolutely amazing. I love how the subway, or tube system (how they call it), takes you everywhere so fast and the city itself just has this British charm, that I totally adore. Besides that there is so much to see.Unfortunately I did not get to see everything but I saw a lot and it was so so so amazing.

Originally I went to London with my best friend to celebrate New Years Eve there. My last New Years Eves all kind of sucked so I finally broke the spell! This year totally rocked! I know I’m repeating myself but it was just so cool I can’t really find the right words to describe it. But apart from celebrating into the New Year we got to do so much more.

My best friend’s been to London so many times she already knows her way around there so I had my own personal tour guide in a way.

The first day we arrived pretty late so we did some late night sightseeing.

IMG_2010 IMG_2002

The next day the weather was pretty British. Rain and wind but I guess when you go to the UK you just have to be prepared for that. Of course we wouldn’t let the rain ruin our day so we checked out Piccadilly Circus and did some shopping. London was full of sales and I love how in big cities you can find so many different kinds of clothes.

IMG_2013

After that we looked at the Tower of London and went up the Tower Bridge. Lucky for us the rain stopped so we could enjoy this amazing view.

IMG_2089

The next day we went to see the Buckingham Palace.

IMG_2027

IMG_2057

On the 31st we went to Madame Tussaud’s and after waiting in line (or queuing as the British would say) we finally got in and I met one of my favourite superheroes… Captain America.

IMG_2175

Later that day we went back to the Hotel, changed and went back to the River Thames to wait for midnight and watch the fireworks. When the clock finally turned twelve we had an amazing view over the Thames and the fireworks. It was absolutely amazing and probably the best fireworks I’ve seen so far.

I hope all of you guys had an amazing New Years Eve as well and may all your wishes for 2014 come true!
