Smashbox Cover Shot Palette Ablaze

For some reason Smashbox has never been a brand I’ve been drawn to. Yes, I’ve looked at their displays and counters numerous times but nothing ever spoke enough to me to make me want to buy it. I can’t even tell you why because I’ve heard many great things about lots of their products. However, about a month or two ago when I was looking at some of their products in store the little Cover Shot Palettes grabbed my attention. Because I’m generally more into warm tones the Ablaze palette ended up being the one I took home with me. I mean these colors are absolutely stunning and perfect for fall/winter.

IMG_4221

So first off I really like the packaging with the explosion of color on the front part of the palette. It’s definitely unique. I also love the size of the palettes. These are really small and include eight eyeshadows, which are enough to create different looks yet the size is so convenient for traveling or whenever you’re on-the-go. It will fit into any purse.

IMG_4222

Now onto the actual eyeshadows. As I’ve already said the colors are gorgeous because they’re so rich and warm. I have blue eyes and these colors really make them pop. The set up is definitely great for beginners because the colors are grouped together. You can use the four colors on the right for a more berry pink kind of look or the colors on the right for a more terracotta and gold look. But of course you can also mix them together however your heart desires. The palette in general is very cohesive and all of the shades go together well, so you can create all kinds of looks.

IMG_4220

The color selection of this palette also allows you to either do some very neutral and basic looks as well as more glam and dramatic looks. Or you could do a neutral look with a pop of color. I wouldn’t say the combinations are endless but it is a versatile palette. I don’t have much experience with Smashbox eyeshadows but this palette makes me think I should try more because they’re so nicely pigmented, very long-lasting and  they blend perfectly. They literally almost blend themselves, which again makes this palette perfect for beginners or people who don’t wear make up too often. Another huge plus in my book is the combination of mattes and satins in this palette because you get four of each.

IMG_4223

I would definitely recommend this palette to anyone who loves warm eyeshadows. These colors just speak to my soul and are a warm tone lovers dream. Plus this palette is just perfect for traveling or short little weekend trips, when you don’t want to pack a ton of makeup. If you like the look and setup of the palette but aren’t as much into warm tones Smashbox has a bunch of these Cover Shot palettes with different color schemes, so there is definitely something for everyone. I now really feel like I’ve been missing out on this brand and want to try some more products.

What’s you favorite Smashbox products?

Thanks for reading!

Too Faced Just Peachy Mattes

Too Faced is one of my favorite brands because I love many of their products and they usually have some of the cutest packaging. So when their Just Peachy Mattes palette was released I pretty much purchased it within seconds online. I feel like people were quite torn over the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette but I personally love that one, so that was reason enough for me to get excited about another peachy palette. I also really like that this one only comes with matte shades. And not to mention it smells heavenly like peaches and cream!

IMG_3828

As much as I love glitter and sparkles nice matte eyeshadows are essential to creating the perfect eye makeup. You cannot do a look without at least one or two good matte shades, so I love me a good all matte palette. I especially like to use only matte eyeshadows on days when I really want to tone down my eye makeup and keep it subtle and natural. Now I already own a few all matte eyeshadow palette but none like the Peachy Mattes. I absolutely love the color selection this palettes has to offer.

IMG_3833

The Peachy Mattes definitely has more peachy shades than the Sweet Peach palette but it still has a big enough variety of shades to be a fairly versatile palette. You can create very subtle and simple day-time or work appropriate looks as well as dramatic going out looks, which is something I always look for in a palette. Additionally I really enjoy the packaging. I almost feel like they sort of updated their packaging from prior collections. It’s still cute but more sleek, which makes the palette look a bit more luxurious than some of the other Too Faced palettes. It also comes with a nice sized mirror and since the packaging itself is very sturdy it’s perfect for traveling or weekend trips.

IMG_3832

But now onto the actual eyeshadows. So far I’ve liked most of the matte eyeshadows in the Too Faced palettes I already own. I always thought they weren’t anything special but nice nonetheless. The eyeshadows in this palette however I love. They’re so nicely pigmented, blend so easily and last all day.

I feel like this would also be a great palette for people that are only just getting into makeup because it comes with such a great selection of matte shades, which are so easy to work with. All the colors in this palette go so well with each other, which makes this palette a lot less overwhelming and makes it super easy for everyone to create pretty looks.

IMG_3829

As I already mentioned it was definitely the color selection that drew me in with this palette. I love the warm toned peachy shades but I think my favorite shade out of the entire palette would have to be Peach Sangria. It’s such a gorgeous berry shade and perfect for fall in my opinion. Peach Tea and Fresh-Picked make lovely transition colors and Just Ripe is my favorite to darken up the outer part of my crease. I love Peaches and Cream as a lid color and Peach Tart in my crease. Although I would not have necessarily needed two very bright highlighting shades there is not one shade in this palette I don’t use because I like them all. Fortunately the quality in the eyeshadows is very consistent in my opinion, which is why there honestly isn’t a shade that has disappointed me.

(Swatches from left to right: Peach Meringue, Peach Butter, Peaches and Cream, Peach Tea, Just Peachy, Fresh-Picked, Peach Cobbler, Peach Punch, Peach Sangria, Peach Tart, Just Ripe, Chocolate Dripped)

Ever since I’ve gotten this palette I’ve been using it non-stop and I would recommend it to anyone that’s looking for a good matte eyeshadow palette because I genuinely think it’s a great add to anyone’s makeup collection!

Building Up My Mac Palette

One thing I’ve been wanting to own for years now probably is my own Mac palette. If you read my blog or follow my Instagram you might know that Mac Cosmetics is probably my favorite makeup brand if I had to choose (though that almost seems impossible). I’m obsessed with lots of different makeup brands but it’s Mac that was my first more high-end brand that I’ve tried and it’s the one brand that really started my makeup obsession and kind of got me into the world of makeup, so I think that’s why it’s so special to me.

IMG_8276

Now while I have quite the big Mac lipstick collection I don’t really own a lot of their eyeshadows although I’ve really been wanting to build my own palette for a long time now. I’ve recently mentioned that I’m working on the weekends now and I got my first pay check paid into my bank account the other day, which was quite the moment for me to be honest. It’s definitely nice to have some extra money to spend and it feels even better to know I’ve earned it myself. So my dad told me I should go and buy something special before starting to save up. I thought about what I might like and thought why not finally start building up that Mac palette I’ve been dreaming of? So I went online and ordered one of their Pro Palettes. Now I haven’t purchased one of the inlays yet as I’m not quite sure if I want one. I think they do make the palettes look more neat but then again I can’t fit in as many eyeshadow. So I’m still debating on that. Along with the palette I ordered 5 eyeshadows after watching tons of Mac eyeshadow must-have videos on YouTube.

IMG_8279

I already owned 4 regular eyeshadows by Mac before, a limited edition one and two of the new extra dimension eyeshadows, so I depotted my regular Mac ones and put them into my palette as well. And today I thought why not show you the colors I purchased and then maybe I can do some updates once my palette is filled up more.

IMG_8278

Now I’m going to start in the left top corner and work my way done just letting you know what shades I’m owning with a quick description followed by swatches of course.

Shroom

Shroom was my first ever Mac eyeshadow and as you can see it’s also my most used one. It’s a gorgeous shimmery shade, which I mostly use as a brow bone highlight.

Naked Lunch

I think Naked Lunch is a gorgeous light pinky champagne color. I love to use this one all over my lid.

All That Glitters

This one is quite the popular shade and I can definitely see why because it’s such a beautiful rose gold like shade. This is another one that I think looks stunning applied all across the lid.

Woodwinked

Woodwinked is another very popular shade and I absolutely love this one. It’s the most perfect bronzy gold.

Tempted

This one is my second Mac eyeshadow I ever bought and I love this one because it’s a gorgeous shimmery brown with a bit of gold glitter to it.

Espresso

Everyone needs a good matte brown, so I figured this shade would definitely come in handy. Especially for the crease.

Cranberry

Since I always hear everyone going on and on about how beautiful cranberry is for fall eye makeup looks and how it’s supposed to be especially flattering on blue eyes I finally caved in last year and bought it. And boy am I glad I did because it’s stunning and makes my blue eyes really stand out.

Green Smoke

My grandma actually bought this color for me a while back and why I’m not sure I would’ve picked it out for myself I do actually really like it. As the name suggests it’s like a muddy smoky green, that’s nice for a bit of a different smoky eye.

Satin Taupe

This is probably the one Mac eyeshadow everyone seems to own, so obviously I needed to buy it. After trying it out a few times now I can definitely see why as it’s incredibly beautiful.

IMG_8282

(Swatches from left to right: Shroom, Naked Lunch, All That Glitters, Woodwinked, Tempted, Espresso, Cranberry, Green Smoke, Satin Taupe)

Although Shroom and Naked Lunch don’t seem to really show up here on this swatch they definitely do on my eyes.

So these are the shades that I currently have in my Mac palette and I’m very much looking forward to getting more. I’m always looking for good recommendations, so please do let me know your must haves!

Much love,

Sophie

Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette

IMG_1612

Just like most other people probably I definitely have my preferences when it comes to the finishes of specific makeup products. Lipstick-wise I’m all about matte but when it comes to eyeshadow I’m obsessed with shimmery sparkly ones. Nonetheless I know that every makeup obsessed person should definitely own some good matte basics. It’s not that I don’t have any, I do, but when I first heard about the Tartelette matte palette I was really curious to try it out. Getting some good matte eyeshadows isn’t very easy because unfortunately many have a very powdery/chalky formula, which makes them hard to work with and they don’t last as long as I’d like/expect them too.

IMG_7150IMG_7153

Hence the idea of a palette that comes with 12 matte eyeshadows, that you can use as a base, for a more neutral look but still can create a more dramatic one sounded like something I needed to add to my collection. Besides I’ve always wanted to try Tarte as a brand and this is my first product by them.

I’ve had this palette ever since the beginning of July, so I’ve now used it thoroughly for the past 2 and a half months and it’s become one of my most used palettes to be honest, which I sure did not expect. Since I’m a total lipstick addict and basically never leave the house without something on my lips I’ve loved using this palette for days when I have class or work, because those are two occasions on which I do like to wear makeup but I also don’t want a very dramatic eye makeup and lipstick because for me, personally, that is a little too much. But each to their own.

IMG_7154

IMG_7157

In my eyes this palette includes the perfect mixture of cool and warm toned neutral basic matte shades because it includes highlighting shades, browns, taupes, pinks, purples and a very nice black. When it comes to the formula of these matte,s I’d say the different shades vary from average to good. Some of the shades are incredibly silky, soft and buttery. They’re so nicely pigmented and blend like a dream. Other shades, especially the purple ones seem to be a bit more chalky or powdery but there is still no shade in this palette I completely dislike or don’t use at all. As always I have some swatches for you, so you can see how pigmented they are.

IMG_7158

(top row left to right: Free Spirit, Force of Nature, Dreamer, Multi-Tasker)

IMG_7160

(Middle row: Care Giver, Natural Beauty, Best Friend, Bombshell)

IMG_7166

(Bottom Row: Super Mom,Wanderer , Power Player, Fashionista)

Some of my favorite and most used shades are Super Mom, Caregiver, Natural Beauty, Power Player and Multi Tasker. I think all five shades are beautiful, nicely pigmented and the formula is very nice and silky. My two least favorite shades are Best Friend and Bombshell. Although they look so beautiful in the pan they are a bit more chalky than the other shades and less pigmented than I expected them to be.

In my opinion this palette is great for everyone, who prefers mattes over other formulas or anyone who just wants an all matte palette really. I use some of the shades in here almost on a daily basis either when I want a very simple eye makeup or I use them as a base. I think especially Power Player and Multi Tasker make some great transitioning colors for the crease. Overall I’m very happy with this palette and definitely don’t regret purchasing it.

Have you tried this palette? What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much for reading!

Sophie

All The Mattes You Need

IMG_2452

When it comes to eyeshadow I’m a glitter girl all the way. Now when I’m talking glitter I don’t mean super sparkly disco ball looking like glitter but shimmery metallics or eyeshadow with a pearl or velvet finish. I hardly ever use mattes and hence don’t really own a lot. While I was in England a little while back I stumbled upon this Makeup Revolution Essential Mattes palatte while I was actually looking for their Essential Shimmers palette. Unfortunately that one was sold out, so I went and took a closer look at the Essential Mattes palette. Since it’s only 4 pounds and I don’t own a lot of mattes I figured it would actually be a lot smarter to go for this palettes as it claims to include all the essential matte shades you will ever need.

IMG_2450

I’m incredibly surprised by myself but I’ve been reaching for this palette almost on a daily basis. Usually I switch my makeup look up all the time but I’m currently home working on a lot of stuff for uni until my 4th semester begins next February. Since I’m quite busy with writing my essays I don’t leave the house too often and just don’t feel like putting a lot of effort into my make up or changing it up. It’s not like I’m going anywhere special anyway. Basically I’ve loft applying one of the soft pinky nudes all over my lid and either using the chocolate-brown or the taupe shade in my crease. It takes me 2 minutes and I have a more defined eye look and ready to go out the door to run some errands or meet up with some friends.

IMG_2447

When I first got my Makeup Revolution Flawless palette I reviewed it on the blog and declared my love for it. The Essential Mattes palette is just another amazing palette I really freaking love. It pretty much does contain all the matte shades you would ever need for a basic eye make up. You’ve got a few light pinky nude shades to choose from, you have some beige and browns including a chocolatey brown, a perfect taupe and a black (which is just super essential) Additionally it also includes 2 purple lilac shades and this gorgeous blue-green teal like color (sorry, I suck at describing colors), which gives you some shades to experiment with and add a hint of color.

FullSizeRender

The pigmentation of the shades is surprisingly really nice and they are just so perfectly easy to blend. If you apply your eye makeup in the morning the color intensity will fade a little throughout the day but it does last, so you won’t need any touch ups – at least I didn’t. I think for four pounds you really can’t go wrong with this and I would totally recommend this to anyone looking to get some matte shades!

My Artdeco Palette

Hey lovelies!

It’s Christmas Eve tomorrow! Who’s excited? I sure am. So I’ve talked to you about building up my own little eyeshadow palette with Artdeco before as my mom put 12 little eyeshadows in my beauty advent calendar for me. I know, I’m really lucky she did this for me and I couldn’t be happier with the shades she picked for me.

IMG_1719

Building up an eyeshadow palette with the concept Artdeco uses is pretty much the easiest thing ever. They offer little boxes with the biggest one having room for up to 12 eyeshadows. The eyeshadow pans as well as the box you put them in are magnetic. This means that you can just easily pop them in and out. If you ever want to rearrange the colors or one is empty and you want to replace it or if you get bored of one shade and want to add a different shade it’s so easy to arrange them. So a big thumps up for that!

IMG_1724

Another big plus is the wide variety of shades. They have an amazing color range in different finishes ranging from matte to shimmery or super glittery. If you can’t find enough gorgeous shades to put together a little palette with the choices you’re giving there must be something wrong with you. Obviously I haven’t tried every color from their collection but every shade I’ve tried so far ( around 14 in total I believe) has been of a really good quality. Each shade is very pigmented, super easy to blend and they last a fair share on the lid without a primer.

IMG_1721IMG_1722

The only thing I’m missing when it comes to these eyeshadows is a cool name. I don’t know if it’s just me but I love when a make up product has a cool name. All of these eyeshadow just have numbers, which are printed on the lids (I’ve taken mine off) but you can also find them on the side of the little pan. Obviously this is just a minor thing though and I can only recommend trying out some Artdeco eyeshadows. They’re quality is amazing and I love their palette building system. It’s a super easy way to pick up some of your favorite shades and arrange them just the way you want without having to do any depotting or what-so-ever.

Here are some swatches of the shades I currently own.

IMG_1726

(Top row including the shades 373 19s, 544 26s, 30 51k, 380 21s, 378 23s, 206 14s)

IMG_1730

(Bottom row including the shades 271 27s, 314 44p, 316 24s, 311 40p, 45 31p, 38 40p)

I’m really happy with the shades my mom picked for me because now I have a nice range of nudes, browns and neutrals but I also have some great shades to use for a glittery smokey eye.

Have you ever tried any Artdeco products? What do you think of their palette building system?

Thank you for reading!

Smashbox Full Exposure Mini Palette

IMG_1083

Before I say anything else, let me just say that this is the tiniest and cutest little nude eyeshadow palette I’ve ever laid my eyes on. It’s so tiny and so adorable and I can’t get over how cute it is. Now with that being said, the Smashbox Full Exposure Mini Palette is a tiny version of the regular Full Exposure palette. It contains 8 shades consisting of 4 shimmer shades and 4 mattes.

IMG_1084

But first let’s talk about the packaging. The eyeshadows come in a sleek little black compact packaging. I knew when I ordered it that it was going to be small because it’s a mini version but I do have to admit I didn’t expect it to be this small. However, I do love the size. It’s so small it will probably fit into your wallet! It’s size makes it absolutely perfect for traveling or when you’re on the go.

IMG_1086

Basically this little beauty combines all the basic shades you could ever need. The 4 matte shades offer a nice brown, a pale pinkish beige, a light highlighter and a taupe shade that is perfect for the crease. I was so impressed with how creamy the matte shadows are. They feel so soft and creamy and are a dream to blend.

IMG_1088

The shimmery shades definitely don’t disappoint either. There’s a beautiful shimmery bronzed shade, a golden beige, a shimmery champagne like shade and greyish silver. The shimmery shades aren’t as creamy and soft as the matte ones but they’re still beautifully pigmented and blend nicely. I think this is a first for me but for one I actually prefer the matte shades in a palette.

IMG_1087

Basically the size isn’t the only thing that is amazing about this palette. I’m absolutely blown away by the matte eyeshadows. Not that the shimmery ones aren’t good, because they are, but the matte ones are just incredible. I’m in love with their texture.

I think this could be a perfect little gift for anyone that loves nude eyeshadow palettes (because you can literally take this one with you wherever you go. It fits in every purse, I’m sure). Then it could also be good for anyone who doesn’t own a lot of palettes and just wants some basic shades because this palette has all the basic shades you could possibly want. With Christmas coming up I think this would be a lovely little present and I’ll be giving one of these as part of a present to my mom for Christmas this year. I’m already so excited to see what she thinks of it and I really hope she loves it as much as I do.
