Cause True Friendship Really Doesn’t Know Distance

Korfu 2012 926

I was inspired to write this post by a lovely email I got this morning from a very special friend of mine. You know how people always say true friendship knows no time or distance? That you can go weeks without talking to someone and nothing will change? I feel like that kind of friendship is very rare and very special and if you do ever experience such a friendship you should hold on to it and never let go. Like never ever in a million years because you probably won’t find such a thing again.

So how do I begin with this post? Well, let’s start with a bit of background information. Until nearly four years ago I used to live in a small town within the greater New Orleans area in Louisiana, but in June 2011 I moved away from there. While I was living there I went to a very small private school but nonetheless I had a bunch of great friends. Now nearly 4 years later I’m still in touch with a few of them but there’s one friend I made there, who is just extra special to me. We met on my first day when I was still a newbie at that school and we immediately got along. You know when you meet someone and somehow everything fits together perfectly and you’re just like where have you been all my life? It was kind of like that. We started hanging out all the time and I could literally talk to her about anything without feeling weird. Usually I’m not that kind of person who talks about their feelings or worries or anything too personal very much but with her it was different. She’s one of the few people I could be completely myself with because I knew for a fact that she would never ever judge me no matter what.

Now four years later we’re still in touch. We don’t talk that often and we haven’t seen each other in person in 4 years but whenever I get an email from her or whenever we actually do manage to find the time to Skype it just feels so familiar and so natural. I can still open up to her about anything even though we’re nearly 5000 miles apart, I haven’t seen her in so long and we don’t talk on a regular basis. But it literally makes no difference. Whenever I hear from her it just takes me straight back to 16 year old me having a blast at those Friday night football games or stressing about finding the perfect dress for homecoming with one of the best friends I could’ve ever asked for.

For years we’ve been making these plans about me coming back to Louisiana and visiting her or her coming over to Europe. We even thought about traveling Europe together over the summer and made all these crazy plans. Unfortunately we haven’t been able to turn anything into reality yet but since we’re both turning 20 this year our plans actually do become a bit more realistic.

Ever since I was little we’ve moved around a lot. I’ve already lived in 9 different cities in 3 different countries. The longest I’ve ever lived in the same place was for 5 years.  I’ve met a bunch of people in my life and I know what it’s like to have to say goodbye to your friends not knowing when or if you will ever see them again. I also know what it’s like to be the new kid all the time. When I was younger I had good friends as well. Friends I would have called my best friends at the time but every time I moved away again I would eventually lose contact to them.

I feel like a friendship in which you can be 100% yourself is very rare and I’m so glad I’ve found a friend like that, even though we may be living miles apart at the moment it doesn’t change anything between us at all and I find that to be such a beautiful thing. Her emails still make my entire day and if there’s ever a time when I’m really down and need to talk to someone she’s the first person I turn to because I know for a fact that she will always be there for me just like I’ll always be there for her no matter what.

So as I’ve already said in the beginning of this post if you ever find a friendship that can’t even be separated by miles and miles hold on to it. Cause who needs those so-called friends who can’t even take a minute out of their day to text you back when you have a friendship like that, right?

As always thanks so much for reading!

Lots of love,

Sophie

A Little Update & My Current Favorite Face Mask

Hey there!

I know I’ve been blogging a bit inconsistently lately but I’ve been insanely busy with exams and I’ve just been lacking the motivation to be honest. I love blogging. I really do! But lately I feel like I’ve just been writing beauty review after beauty review and as much as I love testing out new products and reviewing them here on my little blog, I’d love to switch things up a bit. When I first started blogging my main theme was still beauty but I feel like my blog used to be a lot more diverse. I used to write way more lifestyle posts or throw in a recipe or something fashion related every once in a while. Especially writing lifestyle posts was something I really enjoyed writing but since I’ve been so busy with writing papers and studying for exams I just haven’t really come up with anything I actually want to write about.

I still have a ton of beauty items I really want to review but I hope that I can go back to having  some more diverse content soon. Now since I’ve been stressing out about exams there’s one face mask that helped me relax a little while also improving my skin and it’s the Body Shop Warming Mineral Mask. My favorite thing about this mask is that it warms up when you apply it to your skin and it feels absolutely amazing and so calming.

IMG_2508

Since I have quite the sensitive skin many face masks sometimes sting a little bit when I first apply them. This one, however, didn’t do that at all but actually felt really good on my skin from the first second on. I’ve used it several times now and I can honestly say I’ve seen a difference in my skin. It looks a lot more clear, healthy and glowing, which I’m so happy about. My skin is usually pretty clear but lately it’s been acting up for some reason, which has been annoying me. Ever since I started using this mask my skin has cleared up a lot. The consistency is very nice as well. It’s pretty thick and creamy but not too thick, if you know what I mean.

I can definitely recommend this face mask as it feels so so nice on my skin and I’ve actually seen improvement in my skin very fast. What more could I want from a mask?

I hope that once my exams are over inspiration hits me and I will be happy with my content again.

Thanks for reading!

Much love,

Sophie

Happy New Year & a little Life Update

Hey lovelies,

let me begin this post by wishing you all a very happy new year! I know it’s already the 3rd of January and I really wanted to share a blog post earlier but you now.. life gets in the way sometimes! So, I just got back from London yesterday and then today I met up with some old high school friends just to catch up, which was really nice as I hadn’t seen them in a few months.

But now back to my London trip. It was my 4th time in London and it was pretty damn awesome. I think I just have a bit of a thing for London. It’s such an amazing place. Just like last year my best friend and I stayed there for around 5 days over New Years.

Since we both have been there several times now we skipped the typical tourist stuff and just did a lot of shopping, visited some museums, the zoo and took the subway (or tube as the English they) to explore some of the more exotic parts of London, that aren’t overly crowded by tourists.

Last year we spent NYE strolling through Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park before going to watch the fireworks down by the Thames. However, this year they closed up the area around London Eye and you had to get tickets in order to watch the fireworks. But since getting back to our hotel took us around 6 hours last year because they had closed down a lot of the big underground stations, so we got stuck for around 2 hours in front of Waterloo station, I really had no desire to go through that again. I was nearly in tears last time. So, this year we spend NYE in a bar and club in one right at Leicester Square and it was a lot less stressful and much more enjoyable.

We stayed in a hotel in the Wembley area, so to get back we just had to make our way to Piccadilly Circus and take the Bakerloo line to Wembley Central and after a 7min walk we reached our hotel. I swear, last year in comparison was an absolute nightmare. After getting stuck at Waterloo for hours we had to take own overcrowded subway after the other just to miss our train. With a ton of luck we finally managed to catch a bus out of central London at 5.30.

This time we left the club at around 1 am and were back in our hotel room at around 2,30. I wish we could’ve stayed out longer but it was my first night out partying since I got out of the hospital and since I still have to take strong medication, which makes me incredibly tired I just couldn’t go any longer. But we still had an amazing time!

Obviously I did a lot of shopping as well! I can’t even count the times I went into Boots to buy some more make up. I basically spent most of my money on make up but I have no regrets! Hopefully I manage to get a little haul post up soon. I mainly bought drugstore make up apart from some Tom Ford make up but more about that in my next post.

As much fun as I had I’m glad to be back home now as the last days have been absolutely exhausting. I’m still not allowed to practice any type of sport for a while but we basically spend all day walking around in London with hardly any breaks. Usually that wouldn’t have been a problem for me but since I haven’t been very active physically because I just wasn’t allowed to it was absolutely exhausting for me and I’m now glad to be able to sleep in my own bed again and get some rest! Plus I missed blogging and I’m excited to continuing working on my blog in 2015!

Once again I hope you guys had an amazing NYE and I hope you enjoyed reading this post despite it differing a bit from my usual posts because it’s more of a life update one.

Somehow I didn’t take a lot of pictures while in London (maybe because I already have so many) so I thought I’d just my 3 favorites with you guys!

Lots of love,

Sophie

Merry Christmas & One Year of Blogging

Hey there!

So today is just going to be a short little rambley kind of post. First of all it’s CHRISTMAS EVE! How very exciting! We’re going to have some lovely cake later, go to church at 5pm and then have a big Christmas dinner at 8. I can’t wait! But first of all I have to get all dolled up!

This year I was actually in charge of the dinner because I made the mistake of suggesting to make turkey, which can be quite a lot of work. On top of that I also decided to try out one of the fanciest cakes I’ve ever tried so far. I don’t know what got into me. It must have been the Christmas spirit. So please wish me luck that everything will go well food wise because what would Christmas be without some delicious and festive food? Kind ruined I guess. I can’t wait to share a post all about Christmas including my outfit, make up and the dinner I cooked  for my family with some help from my mom.

But now I just want to wish all of you a very very merry Christmas! Have a wonderful and blessed few days and may all your dreams and wishes come true!

Another thing that I almost forgot because I was so busy getting excited and preparing everything for Christmas – today is actually my 1 year blogiversary. I don’t know why I decided it was a good idea to start a blog on Christmas Eve but very late on December the 24th 2013, it might have been past midnight and the 25th already, I set up my WordPress account. I’d been wanting to start a blog for the longest time and when I got a new laptop and was all happy because it was Christmas I decided to finally go for it! Yay me! Honestly, I’m so glad though I did. When I started this blog I didn’t even know about the entire community that came with it. I had no idea about anything really.

I’m so glad I stuck with blogging and it’s quite cool to see how much my blog has changed from when I first started out. Now some bloggers have thousands of followers on Twitter and Instagram and bloglovin’ but I never started my blog with the intention of going anywhere big with it. All I wanted was to create my own little space on the Internet, where I could be entirely myself and just write about whatever my heart desires, so I’m more then content with having reached 450 followers here on WordPress. At first I didn’t even know there was such a thing as followers or subscribers, so I’m more than humbled to know that there are 450 people reading my blog. Every comment and every like just genuinely makes me so happy! Also I’ve met some incredibly amazing people through blogging, which turned out to be one of the best aspects about blogging for me!

My wish for the next year of blogging is to just continue to enjoy writing up posts and sharing some, hopefully interesting, content with you!

So once again I hope you have a merry Christmas and thanks so much to everyone who’s supported my blog! I can’t wait for the next year of blogging!

Much love,

xx

How Blogging Has Changed Me

IMG_1321

I can’t quite believe it myself but at the end of this month my little blog turns 1! How crazy is that? When I first set up an account here on WordPress it was just for fun and I didn’t think I was going to stick with it for an entire year and even less, find a hobby I enjoy doing this much. Now I might not have the biggest following, the fanciest writing style, the most stunning photos or the prettiest blog design but blogging is something I genuinely enjoy doing and I’m glad I created my own little space on the Internet as it has changed me, personally, in quite a few good ways.

Creativity

Blogging requires you to be fairly creative as you constantly have to come up with new ideas for blog posts, ways to improve your photography or maybe you’re good with design and you’re always working on making your blog design even pretties. I’ve written and published 247 posts on my blog so far and if I think about that now that’s quite a lot. Now some might be more interesting and creative than others but I honestly never thought I’d find so much to blog about when I typed up my first post. My blog pictures aren’t the most beautiful ones out there but they have improved massively from when I first started and though I’m not perfectly content with them I feel like I’m on the right track. In general I just feel like I’ve really become so much more creative through blogging and I’m really happy about that.

Organization/Time Management

I have to admit I still haven’t mastered time management and being organized entirely but it has improved greatly from just a year a go. I keep a little notebook with me at all times now in which I write ideas down for blog posts. I sometimes write up a schedule of when I want to post what and this has definitely helped me with uni work as well. I may not always write it down but I have a little plan in my head of what I really want to get done each day and quite surprisingly I manage to stick to that little plan most of the time.

Confidence

I’ve always admired those people, who would wear whatever they want to no matter what others might say. Though I’ve moved around quite a lot I spent the last few years of High School in a relatively small town with a bunch of very judgmental people. I’ve always believed that the way you do your makeup and the way you dress can (doesn’t necessarily have to but can) be a way of expressing yourself, yet I never felt confident to sport that bold red lip or those fancy heels. I would sit at home and try out the most unique make up looks but I was never brave enough to wear them outside of the house in fear of being judged by others. Nowadays I really couldn’t care less. If I spent a little fortune on a lipstick I might as well wear it proudly, right? I wore bright orange or pink lips a lot this summer when I was back home and though some people might have looked a me like ‘what the hell’ I didn’t give a damn anymore. I only live once and just because some people in a little town no one knows of anyway don’t like the color lipstick I’m wearing it’s not going to stop me from wearing it anyway. Judge all you want.

Doing Something

Before blogging I spent most of my free time browsing the Internet for hours or watching YouTube videos and my favorite shows whenever I wasn’t busy with school, later on Uni work, or hanging out with friends. Obviously I still watch my favorite shows and browse the Internet for make up and fashion stuff but I spend a good amount of time on my blog as well. I really try to take my time for writing my posts and taking my pictures as I feel like quality is always more important than quantity. I write lists of blog post ideas and I try out different make up looks I could blog about. Basically I now feel like I’m actually doing something useful with my free time and like I am accomplishing something because it makes me so happy whenever someone likes a post of mine or leaves a thoughtful comment.

These are just a a few ways in which blogging has changed me as a person and I fee like for those reasons alone starting a blog was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Has blogging changed you in any way and if yes how?

Thanks so much for reading!

The Liebster Award

I got nominated for the Liebster award by The Beauty Bunny. Thank you so much! I really enjoy reading your blog.

I just started blogging about a month ago, so this is a really nice surprise. It’s so cool to know that some people actually read what I write and even enjoy it. Before I bore you all with my ramblings tough I’m going to answer the questions now.

  1. Which country are you from and what do you love most about that country? I was originally born in Germany, but I’ve lived in the States for a while and I’m currently living in the Netherlands. What do I love most about Germany? That’s a tough question and I honestly don’t know. It is a pretty cool country but I want to live in an English-speaking country later. Preferably the US or the UK. This might sound weird but I feel more comfortable speaking English and even though I was born here I don’t feel German at all most of the time. Maybe because my family moved around a lot. Most of the people I know have lived in the same place all of their lives, so they speak certain dialects, which I sometimes don’t even understand. Since I’ve already lived in 9 different cities in 3 different countries in my short life of 18 years, I don’t really have a hometown or a region where I come from. I guess what I love most about my country is my family and friends. And my dog of course.

2.   Which beauty product can you not live without? This is a tough one but I’d probably go with my MAC mineralize powder, because it creates flawless skin and I’ve been using it for years now.

3. Which fashion item can you not live without? HIGH HEELS! Compared to most of my friends I’m rather short, so I’m wearing some sort of heel almost every day. Apart from that, believe it or not, I walk better in heels than in flats.

4.  Which store would you most likely max out your credit card at? There are so many great stores. I really have a lot of favorites but one of my favorite designers is Michael Kors. I’m obsessed with his purses, so I’d probably buy them all if I had the chance to.

5. Who is your style icon? I don’t really have a fashion icon. I just walk into a store and buy whatever I like. I don’t really care if others like it and I don’t go with every trend. Only if I’m really into them. I know yellow will be the new black this spring but I also know I won’t be buying even a single yellow item. I hate the color and it just doesn’t suit me. But yeah I don’t really have a fashion icon. I don’t even read any fashion magazines to be honest.

6. Which spring/summer/winter/autumn trend did you love the most in 2013? I really liked the faux fur coats and vests this winter. I’d never want a real fur anything because I love animals but I really like the look of it.

7. What is your morning routine? I have a really hard time getting out of bed in the morning, so most of the time I get up way too late, throw on my clothes, put on some make up and rush to class.

8. Why did you start blogging? I’ve always enjoyed reading other people’s blogs and I’ve always been into fashion and make-up. A lot of my friends love borrowing my clothes, I’ve been asked to do their make-up so many times and my professors at University encouraged us to start a creative project like writing, so I’ve decided to start a blog for my project. Apart from that I just like having a little space, where I can speak out my thoughts on certain topics with a chance, that some people might even read it and I think I just want to inspire people to be who they are and not change for anyone.

9. Which blog posts do you most enjoy reading? Obviously I like reading about fashion and make-up but I also like poetry and basically any blog post that has a good message to it or something important to say.

10. Which celebrity would you date without even thinking twice? Probably Zac Efron. He is perfection to me. That brown hair and those gorgeous blue eyes…

So these are my answers. Hope I didn’t bore anyone.

Now I nominate Glitter Bananas and Leah’s Fashion Blog because I really enjoy reading their posts.

The rules for The Liebster Award:

1. Thank the person who nominated you and link to their blog (please!).

2. Dig in and answer the 10 questions given to you by the nominee before you.

3. You must nominate 10 (or as many as you like) of your favorite blogs with fewer than 200 followers (on their blogging platform/site) and notify them of their nomination.

4. You must come up with 10 (preferably entertaining!) questions for your nominees to answer.

And my 10 questions are:

1. Why did you start blogging?

2.  If you had 3 wishes what would you wish for?

3. Which country would you most like to travel to?

4. What are your three favorite beauty products?

5. Do you prefer heels or flats and why?

6. Which beauty product do you always carry with you?

7. Lipstick or lip gloss?

8. Do you have a role-model and if so who?

9. If you could buy any product from any brand what would you buy?

10. What is your dream job?

Wow, this is a really long post but I hope y’all enjoyed it anyway.
