A Little Birthday Makeup Haul

So last Monday I turned 21 and since my family knows me quite well I received quite a few makeup bits and pieces along with some other things of course but I thought why not do a little haul and show you which makeup items I got. Let’s get right to it!

IMG_9656

Tom Ford in 04 Pussycat

The very first item I received is this absolutely stunning Tom Ford lipstick. I personally love Tom Ford lipstick despite the heavy price tag and I’ve been trying to hunt down this specific color for a while now because it is such a gorgeous color but I seem to have been out of luck. Hence I was quite ecstatic when I unwrapped this little stunner.

Mac Single Eyeshadows in Jest, Cork and Sketch

Ever since I started trying to build up my Mac palette I’ve created a list of colors I still need for my palette and these three have been on that list for quite some time. So far I’ve only tried Jest and Cork and I absolutely love both. Just as expected Cork is such a perfect crease color but I was even more surprised by how much I liked Jest when I first applied it. It’s so beautiful and very nicely pigmented. Now I’m really intrigued to finally try Sketch.

Zoeva Rose Golden Palette

I love Zoeva brushes but had never tried anything else from the brand, which is why I had my eye on this little beauty. Okay, seriously how freaking pretty is the packaging? This is just one of the palettes I would buy alone just for its pretty packaging. But I also love the Rose Gold inspired colors in this palette. I’ve used the palette only twice since I got it but I’m really liking it so far.

Real Techniques Core Collection

Everybody seems to love these brushes, which is why I’ve been wanting to try them out and put them on my wish list. I guess you can never go wrong with some basic brushes. As you can probably tell from the picture I’ve already tried them (sorry I did not feel like washing them for one photo). So far I’m definitely liking them.

IMG_0319

Chanel Lipstick in 99 Pirate

This is such a stunning lipstick I don’t even have words for it. It’s so perfect from the packaging to the color. But it’s Chanel so there’s not really much more to say.

IMG_0320

The Balm Mary-Loumanizer Highlighter

This is another product I’ve been wanting to try for the longest time because everyone raves about it and I have a bit of an obsession with highlighters. I cannot wait to use it!

IMG_9998

Tom Ford Eyeshadow Quad in 13 Orchid Haze

This one I actually chose myself and got it with a gift card. I thought about this long and hard and whether it was worth the splurge but then again I’ve been dreaming of owning one of these for the longest time, so in the end I just went with it and so far I’ve not regretted it. The shades are all so pigmented and just beautiful!

So this concludes my little haul of what I got for my birthday. Well at least makeup wise. I hope you enjoyed reading this.

Lots of love,

Sophie

My New Favorite Red Lipstick From The High Street

You guys might know by now how much of an obsessive lipstick hoarder I am and my collection is constantly growing as I love experimenting with different and sometimes quite exotic colors. However, nothing can bet a classic red lip for me and I’m always on the hunt for a new one. When L’Oreal released their Pure Red collection I was quite intrigued  to try one. I basically straight away knew which one I wanted to go for without even having to swatch it and the one I purchased is Blake’s Pure Red. First of all I’ve loved Gossip Girl since the very first episode came out all the way back in 2007, so I just had to get Blake’s color, right?

IMG_3166

The main reason I opted for this shade though is that it’s a deep cherry red with blue undertones. I’m blonde with light skin and blue eyes, which means cool toned reds such as this shade are perfect for my complexion. I just had to get this and it’s very far from a disappointment. Basically Blake’s Pure Red is the most perfect classic true red if you’re looking for a cool toned red that isn’t too pricey. Seriously, if you’re blonde and have pretty fair skin you need to get this lipstick!!!

IMG_3170

Another thing that really stands out to me about this lipstick is its formula. I, personally, prefer my lipsticks to be matte rather than glossy but unfortunately matte lipsticks can often be very drying which is such a shame. Take Mac’s Ruby Woo for example. It’s no doubt one of my favorite lipsticks ever but it can be so drying, easily clings to any dry patches and takes a lot of effort to wear. Despite Blake’s Pure Red being a lipstick with a matte finish it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a matte lipstick at all. In fact, it actually feels quite moisturizing on the lips and it glides on so smoothly. I’m so happy that this lipstick is so easy to apply. You don’t need to spend too much time on preparing your lips with scrubs, lip balms and what not unless you have incredibly dry lips. Otherwise this is so easy to wear. It’s not drying. It doesn’t cling to dry patches and it doesn’t smudge.

IMG_3167

Another impressive thing is how insanely pigmented this little stunner is, especially considering that it’s from the drugstore. But then again L’Oreal is one of the pricier drugstore brands and they have a great range of products, so I always expect a little more of them but this lipstick can definitely keep up with some high-end lipsticks in pigmentation and longevity of wear as well. I also really love the packaging. The black mixed with some golden details looks really classy and far from tacky, so it goes perfectly with the classic shade of the lipstick.

IMG_3158

Basically I’m obsessed. This is one of the prettiest shades I’ve come across in the drugstore and I’ve been wearing it so much lately it’s become a staple in my make up bag. A big thumbs up to L’Oreal for creating this amazing lipstick!

Have you tried any shades from the Pure Red Collection? Which is your favorite?

Thanks for reading!

Much love,

Sophie

The Beauty Procrastination Tag

Hey there,

the other day I was tagged to do the Beauty Procrastination Tag by the lovely Charlotte from xxcharlou.blogspot,co.uk. If you haven’t checked out her blog I highly recommend you to.

Now I haven’t really done many personal tags, so I figured it might be fun to read for y’all so let’s get right to it.

1. Are you a very open or private person?   I’d say I’m more of a private person. I always tend to keep my thoughts and feelings to myself and there’s only a few people (probably my best friend and my brother) who I can open up to completely. I’m just more of a shy and reserved person but once I get to know someone, that totally changes and I’m not shy anymore at all but I still don’t like to share really really personal stuff.

2. If money was no object where would you move to? Don’t know. I probably wouldn’t move anywhere and go on a trip all around the world. I love traveling and being able to travel all the time and experience new cultures and learn new languages would probably be the coolest thing ever for me.

3. Who was the last person that made you cry? Last September when I moved to the Netherlands my parents and my brother dropped me off at my new apartment and when they left my brother started crying. He always acts so cool and tough, so that kind of surprised me and it was just the cutest and saddest thing ever. I hate seeing people cry, so it made me tear up a little.

4. Is there a song that can bring tears to your eyes easily? Apparently Don’t Stop Believing By Journey. I know this might be a weird choice but there’s a reason. This song is the favorite song of one of my best friends, who I met in Louisiana. She used to always to always turn up the volume when this song came on and she would sing along to it. She forced me to listen to this all the time. On our way to High School, to Friday Night Football Games, Basketball Games. They even played this song at Homecoming. The other day I had my iPod on shuffle and I probably hadn’t listened to this song since I left the US nearly 3 years ago, so when I heard it all these memories came back and I just started bawling because I miss my friends over there and haven’t seen them in ages.

5. Do you believe in soulmates? I guess so.

6.What age do people usually mistake you for? I have no idea. I think I look about my age. At least when I’m wearing make up.

7. What are you wearing? Skinny jeans, a white shirt and my favorite oversized cardigan because the weather sucks today and I’m probably going to spend the rest of my Saturday studying.

8. Have you ever been in love? I’ve had crushes but I don’t think I’ve ever been like really in love. I’m still waiting on that someone to like sweep me off my feet, make heaven and earth stand still, you know what I mean, right?

9. How tall are you? Not very tall. I like to believe I’m 5’4 because that’s what my passport says but my best friend says there’s no way I’m 5’4 because she is 5’7 and I’m still a lot shorter than her.

10. How much do you weigh? Let’s just say I’m still working on that bikini body. I’m usually between sizes 4 and 6 (US) 8 and 10 (UK) or 36 and 38 (EU)  though.

11. Do you have any piercings? Just my ears.

12. Favorite TV Show? I really liked Gossip Girl, Glee and Pretty Little Liars but I’m currently obsessed with Scandal.

13. Quality to look for in a partner? Someone who is fun to be around and genuinely nice and not judgemental. There’s nothing worse than lying and backstabbing people or someone that gives you a label the instant they look at you.

14. Favorite Quotation?

in-order-to-be-irreplaceable

15.  Do you have any fears?  Heights, fire, cats and dark water.

16. What is your daily beauty routine? Skin care, foundation, powder, mascara and eyeliner. Sometimes I add some lipstick or blush but on a regular day nothing too crazy.

17. When going out somewhere how long does it take you to get ready? Long, I guess. I can speed it up though if I have to.

18. How organised is your make up and nail collection? It’s all separated into different bags. For me that is organised enough.

Thanks again to Charlotte for tagging me :)

If you enjoyed reading this (and I really hope you did) I’m tagging you. If you do decide to do this tag send me your links because I love reading these.

Have a lovely Saturday!

Random Beauty Haul

Sadly tomorrow is my last day of Christmas break, which means it’s back to Holland. Unfortunately for my this doesn’t just mean back to college and classes. No it actually mean lots and lots and lots of stress because some idiot at my University decided to schedule exam week right after Christmas break. For me that means that I’ll be taking 7 finals until the 15th of january. And if that wasn’t enough I also have 3 papers due. Awesome, right?

Since I’ll be leaving tomorrow my mom and I went to do some grocery shopping. Of course I had to stop in the beauty section and of course I had to buy something.

IMG_2266

This is what I got. 2 baby lips lip balms by Maybelline and a new hairbrush.

I’ve heard a lot about the baby lips lip balms by Maybelling. Many of my friends love them so I decided to give them a try. I went for the colors Peach Kiss and Cherry Me.

IMG_2267 IMG_2269

I think they have a cute look to them and I definitely know why my friends love them so much. They give you exactly what they advertise for: a lip balm with a hint of color. I know that I’m gonna take these everywhere I go from now on. Especially the Peach Kiss one.

I also wanted to get a little brush for my purse that I could easily take with me so I stumbled across this awesome hairbrush. It’s called Tangle Teezer. With its cool design it fits perfectly into the balm of your hand. It’s small. It’s practical. It untangles your hair without causing you pain. It’s perfection.

I’m totally happy with the products I bought today and I can just recommend them to you guys. Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

Just Some Little Things

Yesterday I have told you guys all about my stay in London and today I’m going to show you some of the things I bought during my stay. Lucky for me there were many sales in almost every store I went in. Still I didn’t buy that much because I’m trying to save more money rather than spending it all. It’s my New Years Resolution and I’m really curious how long it will last.

anyway….

it was raining and very story so the umbrella I brought unfortunately got killed by the British weather, so I had to get a new one. Besides it rains quite a lot in the Netherlands as well and since I’ll be returning to Holland on Sunday to take my final exams of this semester before my 2nd semester starts a new umbrella will come in quite handy.

Isn't it adorable?

Isn’t it adorable?

Since it was cold and windy my ears were freezing and I sure didn’t want to catch a cold. Usually I’m not much of a hat person but I fell in love with this one and it was on sale. That’s always a good argument.

IMG_2258

Just like every other tourist I had to get some souvenirs from a gift shop so I bought some key chains that I can now put next to my Eiffel Tower and the Empire State Building.

IMG_2256

As I might have mentioned before I am just a little bit vain when it comes to my hair and I love love love wearing bows or cute headbands. What’s very unfortunate though is that not many people seem to wear that around where I’m currently living ( I don’t really care about that) but that makes it pretty hard to find cute hair accessories that aren’t meant for little girls. In London there were so many stores with adorable hair accessories so I just had to get some.

IMG_2257 IMG_2254

That’s it already. I just wanted to get a few things that would remind me of the great time I had in London and I believe I found some good stuff.

Have an amazing day everyone :)

I Love London

First of all HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I just got back from London today and apart from being incredibly tired I’m kind of depressed I’m already back. London was absolutely amazing. I love how the subway, or tube system (how they call it), takes you everywhere so fast and the city itself just has this British charm, that I totally adore. Besides that there is so much to see.Unfortunately I did not get to see everything but I saw a lot and it was so so so amazing.

Originally I went to London with my best friend to celebrate New Years Eve there. My last New Years Eves all kind of sucked so I finally broke the spell! This year totally rocked! I know I’m repeating myself but it was just so cool I can’t really find the right words to describe it. But apart from celebrating into the New Year we got to do so much more.

My best friend’s been to London so many times she already knows her way around there so I had my own personal tour guide in a way.

The first day we arrived pretty late so we did some late night sightseeing.

IMG_2010 IMG_2002

The next day the weather was pretty British. Rain and wind but I guess when you go to the UK you just have to be prepared for that. Of course we wouldn’t let the rain ruin our day so we checked out Piccadilly Circus and did some shopping. London was full of sales and I love how in big cities you can find so many different kinds of clothes.

IMG_2013

After that we looked at the Tower of London and went up the Tower Bridge. Lucky for us the rain stopped so we could enjoy this amazing view.

IMG_2089

The next day we went to see the Buckingham Palace.

IMG_2027

IMG_2057

On the 31st we went to Madame Tussaud’s and after waiting in line (or queuing as the British would say) we finally got in and I met one of my favourite superheroes… Captain America.

IMG_2175

Later that day we went back to the Hotel, changed and went back to the River Thames to wait for midnight and watch the fireworks. When the clock finally turned twelve we had an amazing view over the Thames and the fireworks. It was absolutely amazing and probably the best fireworks I’ve seen so far.

I hope all of you guys had an amazing New Years Eve as well and may all your wishes for 2014 come true!

Off to London

In less than 12 hours I’ll be sitting on a bus that’s headed to the great city of London. I cannot put my excitement into words. So far I’ve only been to the UK twice but none of my visits lasted longer than one day, so I’m really excited I finally get to stay for a longer time. 5 days in total actually.

Unfortunately I won’t be able to post anything since I will be busy with sightseeing, shopping and partying but I can’t wait to fill you guys in on everything when I get back.

I hope everyone has  a great New Years Eve and a good start into the year of 2014!

travelfinderss

I wish everyone all the best and I’ll be talking to you next year.

Much love!
