The Perfect Pinky Nude – Mac Faux

Hey loves,

guess what? I’m back with another Mac lipstick post! Because what else would you expect from a lipstick obsessed girl like me? So Mac Faux is the newest member of my constantly growing very beloved Mac lipstick collection. To my defense though I did not actually purchase this myself.  Well I did but not really. I’m sure you’re all familiar with the Back 2 Mac program, so basically I had once again used up 6 Mac products and traded them in for this beauty.

Although I love my reds and berries and crazy colors sometimes I also do love my nudes very much. On most days you will probably catch me wearing some kind of a nude lipsticks, since I spend most of my time in class or studying or doing assignments. What a very exciting life I’m living. Since I’m very fair skinned I usually like to go for the darker more brown based nudes because most lighter shades make me look even more pale and really washed out at times. Obviously that is not the look I want to go for, which is why I’ve been loving Mac Velvet Teddy and Persistence as my go to nude lipsticks these days.

Nonetheless I like to switch it up sometimes and I’ve been looking for a nice pinky natural looking nude for the longest time. But most of the ones I’ve come across I just find slightly too pink. The thing is I’m fair skinned with blue eyes and blonde hair so pink is my color. Especially cool-toned pinks with blue undertones to them. However, I’m not a fan of barbie pinks. I know a lot blonde girls love those barbie pink lipsticks but to be perfectly honest here I’m not a fan of those. Now I’m gonna admit that I used to wear lots and lots of pink clothes and pink lipstick once upon a time but I’ve kind of outgrown that phase and I just don’t like those super pale barbie bubblegum pinks anymore. If you love your barbie pinks go for it. No judgement. It’s just not for me personally. Or at least not anymore.

So the other day I went into Mac with my momma and we were looking at their lipsticks, when she suggested to try out Faux. After swatching it I knew that I needed this lipstick. In my eyes it’s the perfect light pink nude because it has such a neutral look to it. It’s a Satin finish, which is my second favorite finish from Mac. It’s very pigmented and feels so creamy and moisturizing on the lips. It doesn’t wear as long as some of my other favorite nudes but they’re all matte so it’s not exactly fair to compare them. Nonetheless this lasts a good 5 to 6 hours for me without having to touch it up unless I’m eating or drinking a lot.

As always I have a swatch for you but please note that for some reason it looks a lot darker in this picture than it actually is. Almost like a mauve color. But I also have a picture of how it looks on my lips and I think you can see that it looks a lot lighter on me than it looks swatched on my skin.

Ever since buying this I’ve been wearing it a lot (almost daily) and I feel like this is definitely going to become a staple in my makeup bag.

Do you have any other recommendations for natural looking slightly pink nudes? If you do definitely let me know!

Much love,

Makeup Revolution Haul

Hey lovelies,

how are you all? Can you believe September is nearly over? It’s practically fall now! Ever since school started  again the weeks seem to have just been flying by! Anyway… since I’m working on the weekends now and earning some money I thought it was okay for me to place another Makeup Revolution order. I love all of their products I’ve tried so far and was curious to test some more. There were two palettes I really wanted to purchase anyway as I’ve been looking at them for a while now and then somehow those two turned into 8. But they did have a 3 for 2 offer and I got one palette for free so technically I only bought 6, right?

Let’s start with the face palettes. So one palette I’ve really really been wanting to have for the longest time, practically ever since I first saw it online, is the Ultra Blush palette  in Golden Sugar. Seriously though! Just look at it! How freaking pretty is this palette? I’m not gonna lie I could just stare at it. This might be one of the prettiest looking things from the drugstore I’ve come across so far.

While looking through their face palettes I also saw that Makeup Revolution had just released a contour palette. If I’m being completely honest here I know do not actually need it. I don’t contour much and when I do I have my Anastasia Contour Kit, which I absolutely love, but their palette looked really pretty and they are so affordable, so I bought it anyway. I tried to justify this purchase by telling myself that I could see how it compares to my Anastasia palette. Please don’t judge me. I couldn’t help it.

Lastly I also purchased the Protection Professional Makeup Palette in Light obviously. I really like that this palette includes several shades of concealer, a powder, blush, bronzer and a highlighter. I thought this would be a good chance to try out their concealer and the palette is pretty great for traveling, because it has everything in it you would need for a decent face makeup. I’ve already tried two of the concealers and the powder today and they match my skin quite nicely so that’s great. Now I’m interested to see how well they last.

Now on to eyeshadow palettes. They’ve had a 3 for 2 offer on their Salvation palettes and of course I couldn’t resist. So the first palette that caught my eye was the Pro Looks Palette in Stripped & Bare. Basically this palette is split into three sections that help you create three different looks. The first section offers variety of neutral colors, the second has some light pinks and berry colors and the last section includes more greys and olives, which look perfect for a smoky eye. I really like the shades this palette includes and how they all fit together so perfectly.

The next eyeshadow palette I went for was the Run Boy Run palette. This palette comes with 6 matte shades and 12 shimmery ones. Basically I thought this palette had some great color for fall in it and since it’s nearly October it would come in handy soon. Hence it ended up in my shopping cart.

Since I had already chosen 2 palettes I needed one more and I ended up going for Unicorns Unite and not just because of the name. I promise! But who doesn’t like unicorns? Seriously! Anyway… I really like the matte shades this one has to offer as well as the teal and purple shades.

Since I spent more than £15 I got the I Heart Makeup Fast Love palette for free along with my order. Obviously I’d never complain about free makeup! Because who doesn’t like free stuff? This palette comes with 22 shimmery shades and 10 mattes. Although I probably won’t use all of the shades, it does include some very pretty ones I’m excited to try out.

Okay, so I don’t just hoard makeup I also constantly seem to be buying new brushes. But you do need the right tools to apply good makeup, right? So it’s totally understandable, right? Makeup Revolution offers some very affordable brushes, which is why I really wanted to try at least one. Eventually I ended up going for their contour brush and I can’t wait to try it out. Plus I really do like their sleek black design.

Last but definitely not least I purchased their Naked Chocolate palette. This palette is probably the main reason for my order because I’ve been lusting after it for weeks. But it’s just so stunning, isn’t it? I’ve already been playing around with it and I can’t wait to test it out further.

So this completes my little haul. I know there are tons of reviews out there of these products already but if there is any product you’d like to read my thoughts one just let me know in the comments below and I’ll be sure to write a review on it.

So have you tried any Makeup Revolution products? Which are your favorites? What should I get next?

Thank you for reading and much love,

Post-Summer Hair Repair II Guest Post By Amy Mia Goldsmith

Hey lovelies,

I have another interesting use post for you by the lovely Amy Mia Goldsmith. She is an Aussie literature graduate who has been writing novels and short stories as long as she can remember. Her passion is make up and she loves to spend her free time hiking and of course – make up shopping! I know I’m quite vain when it comes to my hair and always make sure to take good care of it, so I loved reading her post about hair care and I hope you guys will enjoy it just as much. Make sure to check her out on social media. You can find all of her links at the end of the post.

It’s Time for Your Post-Summer Hair Repair

While we all enjoy summer, and endless hours of chilling at the beach or a swimming pool, this is the time of the year when our hair suffers the most. Heat degrades the proteins that protect the hair, so it fades more easily, and loses its shine and elasticity. Salt water and chlorine in swimming pools also have adverse effects on our hair. It becomes dehydrated, dull and brittle. This is why the end of summer is the ideal time for hair nourishing treatments that will restore the natural shine and healthy look to your hair. Use these tricks to give your hair the proper post-summer attention and care.

It’s time to pay a visit to your hairdresser

Nothing makes your hair look more lifeless than dry tips. What is more, dry tips are particularly prone to breaking, and split ends look good on no one. You need to get rid of those dry tips ASAP if you want your hair to look healthy again. So, visiting your hairdresser should be the first step towards repairing the damage. If you don’t like to make drastic changes, having a half-inch trim would still make a world of difference.

Go easy on the shampoo

When it comes to the hair care products, two things are of the outmost importance – choosing the right products and knowing how to use them. Always choose the products that suit your hair type. However, beware of the common misconceptions. If your hair is greasy, for example, never use aggressive shampoos believing that there is no other way. This will only make things worse, as aggressive shampoo will only dry your scalp and your skin will try to recover the moisture by adding more grease. Opt for mild or organic shampoo and use them sparingly. There is no need to wash your hair every day, because it also can lead to dehydrated hair. Remember, whichever hair care product you use, rinse it well, or you will soon develop dandruff.

Give your hair the conditioning treatment it deserves

A good hair conditioner is an investment that pays off. Give your hair the royal treatment by choosing deep conditioners, like those based on Moroccan “liquid gold” – argan oil. You can find them in Theorie hair products (Aussies, get Theorie Hair Products from Alive Skin+Hair). These products will surely restore the shine and softness to your hair. When applying hair conditioner, keep in mind that natural oils from your skin maintain the moisture level of your scalp, so unless your roots are really dry, apply the conditioner only on the sun-damaged tips.

DIY hair care

If you really want to help your hair, add a repair mask into your weekly routine. Yes, quality hair masks and hair salons are expensive, but there are plenty of home-made options that are equally effective, and they are great because you can control the ingredients. Plus, they can be made of virtually anything you can find in your refrigerator: eggs, beer, yoghurt, honey… If you don’t have time to mix the ingredients, just take some olive oil and smear it equally, allow it to sit for 15-20 minutes, and rinse with that mild shampoo.

Handle with care

Never brush your hair when it’s wet. Detangling wet hair is very strenuous and does more damage than good. If you really must do it, use only a wide-toothed comb. Blow dryers, styling irons and curlers are your hairs archenemies. Forget about them for a few weeks at least. Let your hair air dry whenever your schedule allows it.

Follow these simple rules and there will be no more bad hair days for you.

Have you tried any other tricks that worked for you?

Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette

Just like most other people probably I definitely have my preferences when it comes to the finishes of specific makeup products. Lipstick-wise I’m all about matte but when it comes to eyeshadow I’m obsessed with shimmery sparkly ones. Nonetheless I know that every makeup obsessed person should definitely own some good matte basics. It’s not that I don’t have any, I do, but when I first heard about the Tartelette matte palette I was really curious to try it out. Getting some good matte eyeshadows isn’t very easy because unfortunately many have a very powdery/chalky formula, which makes them hard to work with and they don’t last as long as I’d like/expect them too.

Hence the idea of a palette that comes with 12 matte eyeshadows, that you can use as a base, for a more neutral look but still can create a more dramatic one sounded like something I needed to add to my collection. Besides I’ve always wanted to try Tarte as a brand and this is my first product by them.

I’ve had this palette ever since the beginning of July, so I’ve now used it thoroughly for the past 2 and a half months and it’s become one of my most used palettes to be honest, which I sure did not expect. Since I’m a total lipstick addict and basically never leave the house without something on my lips I’ve loved using this palette for days when I have class or work, because those are two occasions on which I do like to wear makeup but I also don’t want a very dramatic eye makeup and lipstick because for me, personally, that is a little too much. But each to their own.

In my eyes this palette includes the perfect mixture of cool and warm toned neutral basic matte shades because it includes highlighting shades, browns, taupes, pinks, purples and a very nice black. When it comes to the formula of these matte,s I’d say the different shades vary from average to good. Some of the shades are incredibly silky, soft and buttery. They’re so nicely pigmented and blend like a dream. Other shades, especially the purple ones seem to be a bit more chalky or powdery but there is still no shade in this palette I completely dislike or don’t use at all. As always I have some swatches for you, so you can see how pigmented they are.

(top row left to right: Free Spirit, Force of Nature, Dreamer, Multi-Tasker)

(Middle row: Care Giver, Natural Beauty, Best Friend, Bombshell)

(Bottom Row: Super Mom,Wanderer , Power Player, Fashionista)

Some of my favorite and most used shades are Super Mom, Caregiver, Natural Beauty, Power Player and Multi Tasker. I think all five shades are beautiful, nicely pigmented and the formula is very nice and silky. My two least favorite shades are Best Friend and Bombshell. Although they look so beautiful in the pan they are a bit more chalky than the other shades and less pigmented than I expected them to be.

In my opinion this palette is great for everyone, who prefers mattes over other formulas or anyone who just wants an all matte palette really. I use some of the shades in here almost on a daily basis either when I want a very simple eye makeup or I use them as a base. I think especially Power Player and Multi Tasker make some great transitioning colors for the crease. Overall I’m very happy with this palette and definitely don’t regret purchasing it.

Have you tried this palette? What are your thoughts?

Thanks so much for reading!

My Handbag Essentials

I’m one of those girls, who pretty much carry half of their belongings with them in their handbag and I never ever leave the house without one. I probably don’t even use half of things I tend to carry around but there are a few essentials I can’t be without and alway bring with me. As you’ve probably already guessed I’m also one of those girls, who owns quite a bunch of different handbags but there’s only one I tend to use on an everyday basis, so that’s the one I decided to use for this post. I only recently purchased it from H&M because I needed a relatively large bag that could fit some books, paper to write on as well as my laptop for my university classes. Most of my other bags either weren’t big enough or not the kind of bags I would want to bring to class. Additionally I ride my bike to school, as people do when you live in the Netherlands because that cliché couldn’t be more true, so I need a bag that’s quite sturdy. I found the perfect one in H&M because it is quite big and it’s black so it goes with everything. But now on to my essentials.

The Obvious ones

I never leave without my keys obviously (at least I hope I won’t ever). I have quite a lot I carry around because I have 5 keys just for the apartment I live in but I don’t even know what all of them are for to be honest. One key I have is for my parents house and then I need two keys for my bike and a set of car keys.

I usually always bring my wallet. The one I currently use is a Michael Kors one I got about three years ago but it’s gold and matches a lot of my bags because they tend to be black with gold or white with gold or any color really with gold.

Whenever I drive somewhere I always bring this little Vera Bradley wristlet because I keep my driver’s license and car documents and that kind of stuff in there.

And then I never ever ever ever leave without my phone and I tend to always bring a bottle of my favorite water, which would have to be Evian. I don’t know if anyone else has a favorite water brand but I can totally taste the differences.

The Makeup Stuff

My every day powder is and probably will always be Mac Studio Fix. I’ve tried a bunch of other powders but somehow I always keep going back to this one. I use this every single day and always bring it in case I need to do some touch ups.

I’m a lipstick addict. I wear lipstick almost every single day of the week. Don’t judge! I just feel a little incomplete without it now. So naturally I always bring the lipstick I’m wearing that day. If you follow me on Instagram you might have seen this one a lot already but my current favorite every day lipstick is Mac Persistence. I usually always wear this one to work and I wear this to class a lot as well.

Since I always bring lipstick I always bring lip balm. It’s usually an EOS one that I never take out of my bag anyway.

One thing my hair can’t live without is my beloved Tangle Teezer. I have pretty long hair, which likes to get a bit messy and tangled up sometimes so I honestly wouldn’t know what to do without my Tangle Teezer. I have a regular one and a travel sized one and one of the two comes with me wherever I go.

Lastly I like to take perfume samples with me, in case I was in a rush and didn’t have time to spray on some perfume before leaving or just to fresh it up a bit.

The Other Totally Necessary Stuff

I never go anywhere without Anti-Bacterial Hand Gel. I own a ton of these and have one in literally every single bag I own. My current favorite one is the Paris flavored one by Bath & Bady Works. It’s pink, it has blue glitter in it and it smells so good.

In case I’m not using perfume I like bringing a fragranced body spray/deodorant. I’m currently obsessed with the Vanilla Kisses one by Impulse. It smells really nice, so I always keep a bottle of this in my bag and one in my locker at work.

My hands tend to get very dry unfortunately, so I always have some hand lotion with me especially once the colder months come around. My current favorite is the Almond Nail and Hand Cream by the Body Shop. It really moisturizes my hands without being too sticky and of course it smells amazing.

The last thing I always have a few of in my bag are band aids. I’m ridiculously clumsy so I have to make use of them way more than I intend to. The ones I’m currently using are the Democare Plasters.* They come in Ocean life or Wild life themed designs. I think they are perfect for anyone who loves animals because of the cute patterns and the best thing is that by purchasing a set of these you are actually supporting the WWF. They’re waterproof, hypoallergenic and very gentle on the skin. You can find them at Ocado, Amazon and the WWF Shop for £2.99!

So this completes my handbag essentials. These are the things I try never ever to be without whenever I go places, whether that’s work, out with friends or a lecture on campus.

What do you like to keep with you?

Have a great Sunday,

Holiday Party Look II Guest Post By Sophia Smith

Holiday Party Look – Pure White and Golden Tan

Every fashion-lover knows that the best colors to wear during the summer are light and bright. And the queen of them is none other than her majesty, white. This summer is no different, except you can wrap yourself in all white fabrics and look breathtaking.

White Collage 01

On the contrary to popular opinion, wearing all white doesn’t necessarily have to look boring and monotonous. It can be a stunning way to accentuate your sun-kissed summer tan and when accompanied with appropriate accessories it can transform into amazingly well combined outfit which will attract all eyes on you.

Let’s find out together, how can white clothes do magic for golden tan, and vice versa.

Playing with White

Since the color is not the only thing that makes one outfit special, you can do your best to make a statement with different fabrics and textures. The trick is to make all white not to look all the same. White pencil skirt by itself reflects business lady sex appeal, while combined with lace top it gives a sense of gentle femininity. If you actually want to add some touch of chic and glamour with accessories, the best way to go are golden pieces.

White Collage 02
You can combine your white dress with golden or silver jewelry, which will additionally enhance your tan, or you can wear a metallic or caramel shade belt. If you want to achieve boho chic, you can accessorize with interesting patterned scarves. Adding a pop of color will make your outfit even more summer-lovin’. Here, you can let your imagination run wild. From yellow stilettos to green purse, everything is an option.

Beach-Lovin’ Look

We all agree that white goes the best with golden tan. And we don’t mean that faux tan stuff, but the real deal. The lying-on-the-beach-for-days tan will look perfect in an easy-breezy white summer dress. And the tan is not all that should be natural.

To achieve that carefree and on-a-summer-vacation look, you should restrict from wearing too precise hairstyles. Avoid the ballerina precise up-dos and perfectly shaped curls. Instead, wear casual half-up-do and I-woke-up-like-this boho chic waves. And if you want to take that summer look even further, opt for balayage effect to create soft, sun-kissed appearance of your hair.

White Collage 03

Make it with Makeup

As with any other style choice, makeup should accompany this summer trend. Summer, of course, isn’t a season where plentiful of makeup should be used. It’s important to be moderate, while accentuating some areas. Your cheeks, for instance, should be enhanced with a bronzer. To draw attention to your eyes, use golden and bronze shades.

 White Collage 04

Last, but not the least, one of the most seductive parts of your face – lips. Nude shades or a colorless gloss are the right tools. To achieve the seductive look of a sexy diva (a la Kim Kardashian), you can turn to some makeup tricks and use a lip pencil in a nude shade. For a little permanent effect, if you’ve always wanted full lips, you can decide for lip enhancement.

White and gold should be a choice for every woman who wants to feel as a Roman goddess this summer. And no, it’s not boring. It’s divine.
