My Birthday Weekend

Hello lovelies,

how are you all? So as you may or may not know it was my birthday last Saturday and I was fortunate enough to spend it in London with my family. Now, I am one very lucky girl when it comes to my birthdays. My last three ones have been incredible and they kept getting better and I’m kind of scared that my 21st birthday is going to totally suck because all the others have been so amazing! On my 18th birthday I got the best of both worlds by being able to celebrate with my family during the day and one of my friends asked me whether she could have her birthday party that day even though it was my birthday and at first I wasn’t too keen on the idea but it turned out to be pretty amazing because basically I got to go to a party with lots of my friends on my actual birthday and the whole crowd sang happy birthday to me, which was so sweet of them. Since my 18th birthday was a day and night to remember I wasn’t really looking forward to my 19th birthday because I was in my first year at university back then and I had my midterms, so I couldn’t go home. However a really good friend of mine organised a huge surprise for me by getting together a bunch of friends and they all drove all the way to where I go to University just to surprise me. I honestly thought I had to spend my birthday all by myself writing essays so you can image my surprise when a bunch of my friends showed at my door. I was so touched I nearly cried and I hardly ever get emotional. The next day my family came to visit me and we had the most amazing day out in the city.

So my 18th and 19th have been absolutely incredible but this year it got even better. My amazing family took me to London for an entire weekend to go see the musical Wicked, which I’ve been wanting to see for ages. We arrived in London pretty early on Friday morning and after checking into the hotel we went straight to the city center. At first we just went for a little walk through St. James Park before we went shopping for a few hours. My dad absolutely hates shopping and my brother isn’t too keen on it either, so the fact that they would go into every store I wanted to go in was pretty nice of them but it was my birthday weekend after all. Basically I bought a bunch of make up. Yes, I know! Shocker! After a perfect day in the city we went to have dinner at one of Jamie Oliver’s restaurants in London which was pretty good.

IMG_3776

On the day of my birthday I had to wake up pretty early and after receiving some very lovely gifts from my family we went to have breakfast at a Starbucks close to the Tower Bridge. Afterwards we just walked along the Thames River for a while before heading back to the hotel to get ready to see Wicked. The show started at 7.30pm but our hotel was a bit further away from the center, so it always took us quite some time to go back and forth. However Wicked was absolutely incredible. I don’t listen to a lot of musical songs on a daily basis (thought I love watching musical) but I’ve always loved the song defying gravity ever since I first heard it. I think there’s just something so empowering about that song, so I couldn’t wait to see it being performed live and oh my god it was incredible. It almost made me tear up and I don’t really get emotional about things easily. Basically it’s been perfect and even better than I imagined it was going to be. I loved every single second of the musical and if I could I’d go watch it again in a heartbeat.

I’m so glad I had another magical birthday and I honestly don’t think 21 can top this. I just had the most incredible birthday weekend and I don’t even mind that I have to spend the rest of the week writing essays and studying for exams.

If you’ve been one of the lovely people who wished me a happy birthday on Twitter then thank you so much again!

Would anyone like to see a ‘What I got for my birthday post?’ I personally enjoy reading those type of posts but I know they can be quite controversial and I don’t want to be showing off, so I’m never sure if I should go for it or not. Let me know your thoughts!

Thank you for reading so much! It always means a lot!

Mac Hot Gossip

Hey you beauties,

let’s welcome the newest family member to my Mac lipstick collection . It’s a beauty, ain’t it? Lately I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with mauve lipsticks. Since I’m a blonde I tend not to wear crazy bright pinks too often because even though they suit me quite well I don’t want to look like a barbie doll and unfortunately people are so quick to label you. Anyway.. totally getting off topic here. I love mauve toned lipsticks because to me they are the perfect neutral pink nude shade you can wear every day. It goes with a lot of make up looks, so when I came across Hot Gossip I just couldn’t help myself and had to get it.

IMG_3713

Hot Gossip is in a Cremesheen finish, which I quite like because it feels very moisturizing on my lips and since mine tend to dry out that’s always a plus for me. Now the color is just a dusty pink mauve shade, which is absolutely gorgeous. I think it’s such a flattering shade and I’m head over heels for it. I think I’ve worn this almost every day since the delivery man brought it to my house and I know I’m going to get so much use out of this lipstick.

IMG_3716

I think it’s a shade you can wear all year around and it really does go with so many looks, especially rather neutral ones. Since I’m more of a neutral girl by day this is such a perfect shade for me. The only downside I have with this lipstick is that it doesn’t last as long as some of my other Mac lipsticks. But I mostly go for mattes and they definitely tend to last longer on my lips than more creamy formulas. It still lasts a good deal but I don’t mind having to reapply one in a while. And at least it fades away evenly and doesn’t leave your lips looking like a mess, which is always a no no for me.

Basically as you can already guess from my review I’m very happy with this shade and I’n glad I decided to go for it. I love how neutral it is and I think it’s quite a flattering shade for my complexion. If you’re looking for more of a mauve/dusty pink shade you can wear every day and which is easy to pull off go I’d totally recommend this.

Would anyone be interested in reading a Mac lipstick collection post?

Thanks for reading!

My Top 3 Pink High End Blushes

IMG_3632

Despite winter not really wanting to go away just yet as it’s still cold and rainy and I’ve barely seen the sun lately, I still have my hopes up that Spring is on its way. During the last two weeks we’ve had a few beautiful sunny days and even though they have been rare that hopefully will change soon. I love winter but I’ve well and truly had enough of the cold and I can wait for the days to get warmer. During the winter months I prefer more berry toned and darker blushes in general but once Spring rolls around I can’t wait to get out my pinks and peaches. Since according to the calendar Spring has officially began (even though I haven’t seen much of it yet) I thought I’d share my current top 3 pink blushes with you to get us in the mood for Spring.

IMG_3633IMG_3636

Guerlain Rose Aux Joues 02 Chic Pink

I got to add this lovely blush to my collection thanks to my grandmother who gave it to me for my birthday last year. First off it just has the most prettiest perfect packaging ever. It’s so gold and shiny I don’t even want to touch it. I’ve written a full review post on it last Spring but it’s still one of my favorites and most used pink blushes so I just have to mention it again. The blush is a duo that comes with two stunning shades, one being a very light soft pink and the other one being more of a dark pink. Both look stunning on their own even though the light one is not as pigmented and only adds a touch of rosy shimmer to your cheeks. However you can also mix both of them together or apply the dark one first and just add a bit of the lighter color as a highlight. Either way this blush is one of my Spring favorites because it just reminds me of flowers and sunshine for some reason.

IMG_3638

Mac Well Dressed

I feel like I keep mentioning this on my blog a lot but it’s pretty much my favorite blush. I don’t want to say it’s my absolute favorite because considering the amount of blushes I own that’s quite a bold statement but it’s a blush I’ve had for ages and I still love it just as much as when I first got it and I use it all the time. Basically it’s just a staple in my make up bag. To me this is the most perfect every day soft pink. I tend to wear this all year round however I use it mostly over the Spring and Summer months. It’s really nicely pigmented and blends so perfectly.

IMG_3639

Nars Orgasm

Now Nars Orgasm is a blush everyone seems to know and love. It’s very hyped up in the beauty world and I definitely see why. It’s more of a peachy golden pink but it’s just the most gorgeous color that suits so many complexions so well. With this blush a little really goes along way as it is just so pigmented. But luckily it blends really well. I love how this is the perfect amount of shimmery and it just adds the most perfect peachy pink golden glow to your cheeks and really lights up your complexion.

As always I have some swatches for you but since the lighting is still pretty crappy because of the bad weather and I used my phone, they really don’t do them any justice. But at least I tried and you get a bit of an idea of what they look like, right?

IMG_3642

(Swatches from left to right: Guerlain, Mac, Nars)

So these are my top 3 pink high end blushes which I will be using a ton in the upcoming months. I’ve had all of these for at least a year  and still adore them but then again I always love going back to old favorites.

What are your favorite pink blushes? Any recommendations?

Have a lovely Sunday!

Much love,

Sophie

Setting Goals & Dreams Coming True?

Hey guys,

I’ve had the best morning today. I got to sleep in and had the best breakfast consisting of a nice cup of coffee and hot pretzels. Breakfast perfection! I hope your start into the weekend is just as good as mine! Anyway.. I really felt like writing a more personal, rambly update kind of post so if you’re here for the usual beauty review you now have the chance to click off.

So some of you might remember the post I wrote about one of my best friends from the US and how we’re still very close and try to keep in touch even though we haven’t since each other in nearly 4 years, which seems like an eternity. I also wrote about how we always dreamt about traveling together and how we would make the craziest plans of all the cool places we wanted to go to. Honestly I never really believed our dreams would even come somewhat close to reality but guess what? She’s coming to Europe this summer! After years of trying she has finally managed to convince her parents to let her go to summer school in Paris! She’ll be staying in Paris for an entire month, so I can visit her there and once her classes are over she is going to stay with me for for two weeks and we’re planning on traveling to a bunch of different cities in Europe. Now it’s not set in stone yet and she still has to book the flights but it’s 99.9% sure that she’ll be making her way to Paris.

I cannot even put into words how happy this makes me. We’ve been talking about this for years and the last time we both saw each other was when we were 16 and now we’re going to see each other in around 4 month. I still can’t really believe that this is happening. I think I’m going to have an amazing summer and I can’t wait to share it all with you and blog about it.

To-Travel-is-to-Live-11

Now as some of you may also know I was really ill last summer and though I’m physically healthy again I wasn’t allowed to do any kind of sports for months so obviously I’m not in the best physical shape fitness wise. I’m still out of breath super easily, which annoys me immensely and makes me feel worse. But since I’ll be spending quite a bit of my summer traveling and exploring new places I need to get myself into a better condition health wise or otherwise I won’t be able to travel. As frustrating as it is so start slowly I’ve starting going for walks a lot and each time I manage walk a little longer without having to take a break. I hope to soon be able to cycle to uni again instead go having to drive.

It’s like now that I finally have a goal again I feel my motivation and energy coming back. It really helps to have something to work towards to because in the end you know you’re frustration will turn into happiness once you reach your goal. Summer seems to be approaching fast now and I’m seriously looking forward to it, which is such a great feeling because I haven’t really looked forward to anything in months. It was like I was just kinda living my life without having any direction. Obviously finishing my Bachelor’s degree is my goal but I was just kind of going to Uni and trying to get good grades but when I received those good grades it didn’t even make me happy. I felt a sense of relief but other than that it almost didn’t even matter. I was just living my life without actually living it if you understand what I mean. I wasn’t really feeling alive because I was still struggling with everything that had happened and it frustrated me that I couldn’t get back to old happy and carefree self.

But now I’ve set myself a goal and I have something that is truly making me feel excited about something again. I just wanted to share this more personal post with you guys because I know there are a lot of people out there who struggle with all sorts of things on a regular basis. I’ve had a terrible last 6 months if I’m being honest with myself but things are looking up for me a lot. I’m finding my motivation and energy again and I feel like I’m truly on the road to happiness again. So if you’re having a tough time because of whatever just remember that things will get better at one point. Even though it feels like they won’t.

A Palette I Neglect Too Much

FullSizeRender-3

I think it’s quite obvious that I have a teeny tiny okay maybe a huge obsession with make up. I always have a list on my phone of which products I need to get next and once I cross one item off I add another five. It’s a never-ending cycle. Just like every other make up obsessed girl I have to admit that I sometimes purchase products simply because I want them and not because I need them or will get a lot of use out of them. One of these products is my Urban Decay Electric palette. The palette obsessed girl that I am I immediately decided that I needed this palette in my collection when I first saw it. I have nothing even close to similar to this palette and I loved the crazy colors and the cool packaging. There’s nothing much to say expect that I just fell hard for the palette.

FullSizeRender-1

When I was in the hospital last summer my amazing mom actually went out and bought this for me as a gift to make me feel a little better and cheer me up! Well, her plan definitely worked and I was on cloud nine when I unwrapped it. When I told my friends about his palette none of them shared my excitement and they just thought the palette looked like a paintbox and I was crazy for wanting it.

Ever since I was quite young I’ve loved make up and I’ve loved experimenting with crazy and bold looks (even thought I wouldn’t wear them outside my bathroom) and that passion never went away. I know the colors this palette includes are very bold and loud and maybe look quite insane to some people but I love the challenge this palette brings a long with it and I love how you can create some really unique looks with it and add a pop of color to a more simple look. Especially during the summer months I’ve loved using this palette for some more colourful eye make up looks.

FullSizeRender-2IMG_3563

With this palette you get incredibly stunning shades and I’ve worn and love every single one of them except for the shade slow burn, which is an orange red that just does not suit me at all, but I imagine it to look absolutely stunning on someone with a darker skin tone. My personal favourites shades are Fringe, which is a gorgeous shimmery teal, Revolt (a beautiful silver),  Jilted (a shimmery blue based dark pink) and Urban (another shimmery dark purple). Except for Revolt every shade is so incredibly pigmented and they last so long!

FullSizeRender

Unfortunately this palette obviously isn’t one I grab too often because it doesn’t have the most wearable shades for a simple every day look, which is what I go for most of the time. However, I still don’t regret getting this palette. In fact, I’m really glad because it’s so unique and I wish I wouldn’t neglect it as much. Hence I can’t wait for the warmer months when I will have more time to do my make up in the morning and I always feel like bold and bright colors are much easier to pull off during summer.

Do you have any particular products that you love but tend to neglect a lot?

Thank you for reading!

Much love,

Sophie

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet 07 Nude-ist

Hey lovelies,

#TGIF, am I right? I certainly am very happy it’s finally the weekend because I’ve got quite a few fun things planned! Anyway.. do any of you remember my post about the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in the shade 08 Grand Cru and how disappointed I was with it since these liquid lipsticks had been so hyped up. I absolutely loved the color but I didn’t get on with the formula of it at all.

With a bit of help from my friend Google I found out that several other bloggers had issues with this particular shade just like me, so I decided to buy another shade and test that one out. I eventually ended up purchasing the shade 07 Nude-ist. Before I get into the color more let’s start off with the formula.

IMG_3540

Basically this products comes in a lip gloss like packaging but it is in fact a liquid lipstick. This pretty much just means that you first apply it like a lip gloss and it’s really creamy. Once applied on the lips it then dries off to a matte lipstick like finish that lasts for hours. That’s pretty much an amazing thing and for a lipstick lover like me (especially because I prefer matte finishes anyway) it’s pretty much a piece of heaven in a bottle. What I experience with the shade Grand Cru was that I couldn’t apply it evenly on my lips and it would make such a mess. However,  Nude-ist glides onto my lips very smoothly and provides an even application. Actually it’s such an easy wear. It’s so simple to apply. It’s not messy at all and it stays on so freaking long. I apply this in the morning and it will last almost all day despite me eating and drinking. It does fade a but throughout the day but what I love about this is that it fades away evenly. Despite this being quite matte, the great thing is that it doesn’t accentuate any dryness and it’s very comfortable to wear.

IMG_3541

Now on to the color. I have to admit that the color does look almost like a mauve pink in the packaging already, which is not a shade I would expect from a product called Nude-ist. Of course I did a bit of googling before buying this shade and it looked so different on people it really confused me. So if you’re someone who buys products based on their names don’t be fooled by this one. It’s definitely not a nude shade or at least it’s not a nude shade on me. I have a picture of how it looks on the lips down below and I’ve also included one of me wearing nothing on my lips so you can see my natural pigmentation and compare. I thought that might be helpful. If I had to describe this shade I’d probably describe it as a dusty mauve shade. I personally love mauve lipsticks and this shade would definitely be a color I’d wear for an every day look but it’s not a very neutral shade to be honest but see for yourself.

IMG_3544

SAMSUNG CSCSAMSUNG CSC

I’m really loving this shade and I think I will get a lot of use out of it. It’s such an easy wear and I feel like it suits me pretty well.

Have you tried one of these? Any other shades you can recommend me?

As always much love and thank you for reading!

I Heart Definition Palette in Fair Review

IMG_3241

I’ve written about a few contour products I’ve already tried  before and I keep trying out new ones. The I heart Make Up I Heart definition contour kit in fair is my most recent one and I’ve also given it a spot in my January favorites post because I’ve really been loving it. I got this when I was in the UK over New Years with my best friend and just had to pick it up when I saw that it was only 5 pounds.

IMG_3240

I don’t do any heavy face sculpting but I love a bit of a contour just to emphasise my cheekbones and I have a bit of an obsession with highlighters to be honest. What I love the most about these little contour kits is that they contain a bronzer, a blush and a highlighter, which makes them perfect for when you’re on the go or want to take it with you for traveling. However, since I’m quite pale most of the bronzers are way way way too dark or orange for me and make me look all muddy instead of sun-kissed. Since this contour kit is especially intended for fair skin I was even more intrigued.

IMG_3241

First let’s talk about the bronzer. When I first saw it and swatched it on my hand I found it to be relatively brown and was a bit worked whether it would suit me because I’ve realised that brown greyish bronzers like the NYX powder blush suit me the most as they look the most natural on my skin. Once applied and blended I was really surprised how good the bronzer looked. The consistency is quite buttery and soft, which makes it a dream to blend and I’ve been using it for contouring a lot lately.

Next up is the blush. I would describe the shade as a soft dusty old rose pink and it’s absolutely stunning. It’s the exact kind of blush I would go for, for a simple and fresh every day look. It really compliments my fair skin so nicely.

Last but not least let’s talk about the highlighter! As I’ve already mentioned I’m a total sucker for highlighters! I love how they transform my skin from dull to glowing healthy and radiant! Although this one cannot beat my favorite highlighter of all time, my very beloved Mac soft and gentle, it’s nonetheless as stunning highlighter. I would describe it as a shimmery rosy champagne shade.

If you’re looking for a new contour kit that’s compact and travel friendly or you’re just starting out with contouring and want to get a kit instead of having to buy each product separately I can definitely recommend this. All three products are great, especially if you consider how affordable this is.

Thank you for reading!

Love,

Sophie
