It’s a Love Hate Kinda Thing

No matter where you look everyone one seems to be loving the Bourjouis Rouge Edition Velvets at the moment. Naturally I had to go and give them a try and even after trying it out for a while I’m still torn. I like them but I don’t love them nearly as much as everyone else seems to and I will tell you why.

So first off I really like the packaging. It’s small and sturdy and fits into very purse. Plus I think it’s nice that you can pretty much already see the color you’re gonna get. But it has the weirdest smell. Thankfully that doesn’t last really.

The one I bought is in the shade 08 Grand Cru, which is a beautiful shade of a true red. The product comes with a doe foot applicator, which should make the application quite easy. So I don’t know if it’s just me but I think it’s quite hard to apply. I’ve read everywhere that they are so easy and just a dream to apply but that didn’t really happen for me. When I applied the first layer it was quite sheer, which is totally okay, but when I tried to build up the color it would rub off some of the color already on my lips, so I couldn’t get it even. It just looked pretty bad. Now I don’t know what the reason is, so I tried it again and again and sometimes it really does apply quite evenly, especially when using a lip balm beforehand but for some reason I can’t achieve that every time.

Whenever I can get it to work I love it. The color is stunning and it lasts really long. Not as long as my Sephora Cream Lip Stain but it comes in really close. What I really dislike with this though is that you have to be super careful when you apply it because it stains so much and it’s quite hard to get off once its on. So if you apply this really take your time and better not mess up because it will stain on your skin and it will go everywhere.

So in general I can only describe this as a love hate kind of thing. I don’t know why I’m having such trouble with the application because every one else describes them as so creamy and easy to apply. I didn’t really have that experience and I thought it was quite hard to get an even color on my lips. If I do manage do get it right though I love it! It looks stunning and it’s long lasting. It feels nice on the lips as well.

Have you tried these? Am I the only one who isn’t loving these as much?

  1. I bought this exact one last week and to be honest am thinking the exact same as you!

BUT. I had a little Google and it seems to be the SHADE that causes problems. Anyone who’s bought Grand Cru has disliked it. Anyone who’s bought any other shade at all has really liked it!

So I’m tempted to invest in another one and see… xx

  2. I love these and haven’t had any problem applying them. I don’t have that particular colour so maybe that one is slightly different?

    • That’s what I’ve heard from so many people, which is why I bought it and once I can get it to apply evenly I love it. If only tried this shade so I can’t really say anyhting about the others. Could be possible xx
