July Favorites

Can you believe? Another month has already gone by. It feels like 2014 is flying by. Okay, 2014! You need to slow down a bit. It’s Christmas in 5 months, people! 5 freaking months! Wasn’t it just Christmas yesterday?

Well, July has come to an end meaning it’s time for a July favourites posts, so here’s what I’ve been loving this month.

Let’s start with skin care because I’ve been making a few minor changes in my skin care routine this month. I used to mainly use products from the Body Shop Tea Tree range because my skin hasn’t been looking it’s best throughout the month of June but because it improved a lot towards the end of it I decided to switch to the Aloe range by the Body Shop because it’s especially made for sensitive skin and since my skin is pretty sensitive I wanted to give it a go. I’ve actually already tried out the face mask I’m featuring in this post before and I have  written a review about it but I’ve been using it so much this month it was only fitting to include it in here. Because I enjoyed using this face mask so much I decided to try their gentle face wash and I can tell you it did not let me down. Definitely one of my favorites this month! I’ve used it every day.

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer in 15

This might be my new favorite concealer. I bought this in the very end of June and have pretty much used it every day since. Need I say more?

Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation 2N1 Desert Beige

I’ve included this lovely foundation in a haul post in the very beginning of July. Probably somewhere around the 3rd or 4th. I’ve heard a lot of bloggers rave about this foundation, which made me very curious to try it, so when it was 30% off at a local make up store near my parent’s house I used the opportunity to finally give it a go. I’ve used it a lot this month because it gives amazing coverage but still feels nice on the skin. It’s so long-lasting and makes my skin look incredible. I can definitely say I’m glad I gave in and got it.

Rimmel London 930 Bronze Goddess

I know I’ve only just written a review about this yesterday and now it’s being featured again in my monthly favorites but I’ve used this a lot in July, so it gets a well deserved place in this post. If you want a full review of this gorgeous lipstick check out my last post.

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub

I’m a lipstick lover but even the most stunning lipstick looks bad on dry lips, which is why lip care is so important. This is my absolute favorite lip scrub because it’s mint flavored. I’m a huge fan of all things mint. I love the smell of mint, I love the flavor, the taste of it and I love love love the color mint green. See why I love this so much? It’s smells amazing and makes my lips so incredibly soft.

The Body Shop Honey Bronzer in 01

Yes, I know. I’ve included this post in my April or May favorites already, I believe, but it’s the only bronzer I like. I’ve tried others but they tend to be too dark for me and make me look all muddy and just not good. With this bronzer I’ve finally found one that does exactly what it’s supposed to.

Mac Minerlaize Skinfinish Soft &Gentle

This might be one of my favorite products of all time. It’s so freaking beautiful! I got this a while ago and I seriously can’t believe I haven’t used it more. It’s just so pretty. It’s definitely my new favorite highlighter whether I want to add some shimmer to my cheekbones or my brow bones it looks amazing on both. It’s a little pricey, but so worth the money. Plus it’s gonna go a long way.

Rimmel London 60 Seconds 220 Sage All The Rage

I have to admit this isn’t the most fitting color for summer but somehow I really liked it and decided to paint my toe nails this color in mid July and kept it on there for the rest of July. It’s kind of a muddy green but I think it looks great with a white dress or black and gold sandals. I don’t even know why.

The Body Shop White Musk Libertine Solid Perfume

I’ve seen these little guys every time I went into a Body Shop store (which is quite often) and every single time I thought about getting one. I’ve never tried solid perfume before but it sounded really interesting and I adore the heart shaped packaging. One day in early July I picked one up and I’ve almost used it every single day since. This smells incredible and because it’s so tiny it fits in every purse, so you can carry it with you wherever go. Pretty darn amazing, right?

Essence Get Big! Lashes Mascara

Another product I’ve just very recently written a review about. Although this isn’t one of my top mascaras I think it’s perfect for every day use as it is so affordable and gives you long well defined lashes without being too dramatic.

Alright! These are all the products I’ve been loving this month. Actually not all of them. There have been a lot more but these are definitely the ones I’ve used the most.

Which products have you been loving most this month?

A Beautiful Nude Lipstick For Summer

Hey guys,

this seems to be turning into kind of a theme. Yesterday’s post was about getting that perfect summer glow and today’s post is about the perfect nude lipstick shade for summer. I promise this wasn’t planned. Originally I didn’t ever even plan on buying the lipstick I’m now blogging about. I was in this store were you can get everything crazy cheap and spotted the ridiculously cheap price on the lipsticks and as you can probably guess I, obviously, couldn’t resist and had to get a few. So much for self control. Anyway… I don’t want to bore you any longer with my ramblings, so let’s reveal this lipstick I’m talking about, shall we?

Okay guys! Now you know. It’s Rimmel London’s 930 Bronze Goddess. The only reason I bought this lipstick is because I liked the name of it and the color on the bottom looked kind of cool. I didn’t even swatch it! So why am I loving this lipstick so much? Well, if you’ve been reading my blog for a while you might have noticed I’m kind of into lipsticks. Okay, maybe I’m a little obsessed with lipstick and I love to try out all these different colors, whether it’s a bright one a really bold one or a very dark one. I just want them all. While obsessing over all the cool and unique colors I sometimes forget how stunning a basic nude can look. You don’t always need the craziest lipstick to make a statement. A classic elegant nude can say just as much. Besides not everybody likes to rock the bright pinks or corals in summer. Some people aren’t feeling comfortable enough and others simply don’t like it. So here’s a post about a great nude that, in my opinion, is perfect for summer. Obviously it can be worn all year around but it’s not just the name of it (Bronze Goddess) that reminds me of summer.

Let’s start off with the basics. The lipstick comes in a bit of a chunky purple packaging. It’s nothing fancy but pretty average for a drugstore brand. Nothing to complain about. What I really love is the texture. It’s so creamy and easy to apply. I love how it feels on the lips. It’s really moisturising and gives your lips a glossy finish. I’m usually more on the matte side but for summer I quite like the glossy finish. Now on to the color. It’s a very light brown with a hint of peach. I suck at describing lipstick shades but it really gives your lips a bronzed shimmery look. I think the fact that it’s such a bronzed color makes it a perfect nude for summer. Here’s a swatch for you.

And this is how it looks on my lips. As you can see it’s not too pigmented but very shimmery. Please excuse the mess that is my hair today.

This lipstick has actually been discontinued by Rimmel, I think, because it’s no longer available on their website but you can still find it on the internet and in some stores.

Hope you enjoyed today’s post!

Perfect Products For That Bronzed Summer Glow

We all love that summer glow, right? There’s nothing better then returning from a fun summer vacation with a nice tan and radiant skin. Well, not all of us can go on vacation and not all of us tan. I always have to use loads of sun screen or else I’ll freaking burn, so basically I have the option between turning into a lobster or just staying the pale white person I am. I usually opt for the last one unless I forget to put on sun screen. Now this is where make up comes in handy. Us lucky ladies still have the possibility to recreate that pretty summer glow with a bunch of amazing make up product and those products is exactly what today’s post is all about. I’m sharing my favorite products for a nice summer glow with you guys.

First of let’s talk base. A good base is the first and a really important step for great summer skin. Since it might get a little hot and you might be sweating a bit in the heat of the summer sun I prefer to use a BB cream on those hot summer days. BB creams are much lighter on the skin than foundations and therefore don’t go caky on you. Plus some of them can even improve your skin from any imperfections while wearing them and let’s be honest! Who wouldn’t want that, right? My favorite BB cream of all time would have to be the Garnier Miracle Skin Perfector. I’ve heard of people who didn’t like it as much but for me this really does work miracles. It gives a good coverage while still being light on the skin. It lasts me all day and yeah… it just works little miracles.

Another important part of a good base is, obviously, a decent concealer. One of my personal favourites is the Mabyelline Fit Me concealer. Just love this stuff. Lastly you might need a powder to set your foundation or to cover up shiny skin. For summer I prefer translucent powder.

Next up is bronzer. Bronzer is the perfect product for every girl that just doesn’t really get tan, so basically me. Even if I do tan a little at times my face never ever tans. It seriously doesn’t, which is why I like to use a bit of bronzer to give my skin that slightly tan sun kissed look. My personal favorite bronzer currently is the Body Shop Honey bronzer. I’ve tried a bunch of others and even though I did like them they were just too dark for my skin and made it look so fake and there’s nothing I hate more than looking fake. The Body Shop offers quite a range of different shades and I even found one suiting my skin type. YAY! If you’re pale and looking for a good and affordable bronzer I can honestly recommend this one.

Okay, so this highlighter I only got recently but it is already one of my favorite products ever. This is the Mac Mineralizing Skinfinish Highlighter in Soft & Gentle. There’s really not much to say about this product apart from that it’s absolutely stunning! I love applying this on my cheekbones or along my brow bone for a bit of a highlighting shimmer. It is just so pretty and I feel like this would pretty much suit any type of skin color whether your super pale like me or really tan. It’ll look gorgeous anyway. I tried to take a picture of a swatch. My camera did pick it up but in reality it looks even more beautiful. I know this isn’t the cheapest highlighter out there and I was really debating whether to get it or not but it’s really worth the money. Besides it’s really going to last you ages as you probably won’t use it every day and you won’t need much of it because it’s really pigmented.

Last but not least we’re going to need blush to perfect our summer glow. One of my favorite blushers for summer has to be this Bobbi Brown shimmer brick. I believe this one was a limited edition but I think there are still some out there that are quite similar to this one. All of the colors included in this shimmer brick look absolutely beautiful on their own and add some shimmer to your skin to make it glow but you can also use one big brush and swirl them all up together to create a perfect light bronze shade with a hint of gold and light pink. I’ve swatched them all for you and also added a swatch of all of them mixed up together.

And we’ve already reached the end. These are the products I like to use to kind of recreate that bronzed summer glow you usually get when going on vacation somewhere warm and sunny.

Hope you like this post!

Happy Monday,

Essence Get Big! Lashes Mascara Review

Guess what I just discovered, guys? I haven’t actually done a beauty review in over a month. My last review was of the Body Shop All in One BB cream and I posted that on June 23rd. Quite crazy considering that one of my main topics on this blog is beauty, right? So are you thinking what I’m thinking? Because I’m thinking it’s time for another review and today I will tell you my thoughts on the Essence Get Big! Lashes mascara.

I’ve mentioned this mascara in a haul earlier this month or at the end of last month. Can’t even remember it’s been so long. What drew me to this mascara, originally, was its packaging. I’m a sucker for big chunky mascara packagings and this mascara is big and chunky looking for sure. I don’t really know what it is but the design just looks so fun and cool I really wanted to try it. When I spotted the price, 1.25, I was a little put off on the one hand but really intrigued on the other. Can a mascara for 1.25 be even half as good as one for 10? And how would it compare to a high end one, which are sometimes even up to 30€? I decided there was only one way to find out. I had to buy it and test it.

On the back of the mascara essence claims that this mascara uses a triple-black effect for maximum volume and extremely thick lashes. First of all I have to admit that I was blessed with really long natural lashes, which is why basically every mascara makes my lashes look long because even though my eyebrows are really dark (so weird) my lashes aren’t. Hence what I’m looking for in a good mascara is volume and one that makes my lashes really black, so you can actually see the length of them.

This mascara definitely gives you black lashes from the first coat on but I feel like it fades after a few hours. It does give you thicker lashes but I wouldn’t call them extremely thick as Essence does. Nevertheless this a fairly good product, especially when you look at its price. I wouldn’t use it on a night out because it doesn’t give my lashes enough drama, for my taste, but I think it’d be  great mascara for every day use because it’s easy to apply, gives you dark long lashes and increases the volume but not to an extend where it gets too dramatic and fake looking.

However because of the huge brush you have to be a bit careful when applying because it’s easy to get mascara everywhere except for the places you actually want it. Also when you take out the wand you’ll notice that there is a lot of product on the brush. Make sure to get a bit of before applying or otherwise the mascara will clump up your lashes due to an overload of product.

This is how the mascara looks on my lashes after applying 2 coats of it. I think this is quite perfect for an every day make up look because you get long black defined lashes without being too over dramatic.

So can I recommend this? I love the packaging and I think it’s a pretty good product if you consider the cheap price. However the black fades after a while and it doesn’t stay as long as other more expensive mascara. But again looking at the cheap price you really cannot complain.

Hope you like this post! Have you ever tried one of the Essence mascaras?

Letting Go and Being Happy

Hey guys!

I know my posting schedule has been a little off lately but I think I have a good reason for that. As you may or may not know I’m still at my grandparents. While my parents left on Sunday my brother and I decided to stay until Friday. When we were little we used to spend a lot of our summers here. Usually whenever we moved to another place because of my dad’s occupation my brother and I would stay at our grandparents over the summer while our parents moved everything. I have a lot of happy memories of those times. When my brother and I grew older and my family finally settled down we started visiting my grandparents less and less because they live pretty far away. Especially now that I’m at Uni I barely see my grandparents.

For the past months I’ve been worrying about University and my future a lot but now that I’m officially enrolled for my second year I can finally relax and just let everything go. In general I would say I’m a pretty positive and happy person but I also worry. Oh I worry a lot. Maybe that’s why I have such sleeping issues. I don’t know. Anyway.. now that I’m at my grandparents and it’s a changed scenery I can feel like I can finally let go of my worries. At least for a little while. Currently I’m just enjoying my time with my brother and my grandparents. We’re doing a bunch of fun things and my brother and I are, in a way, reliving our childhood memories a bit. Yesterday we went to a mini golf park, which is a thing we always used to do when we were little. I’ve always hated it because I suck at it and I ALWAYS lose but my brother loves it. Today we’re going to a petting zoo. I feel like such a kid but I’m massively excited for that.

Another thing I’ve been doing is just chilling in my grandparents’ backyard. I just absolutely love their backyard. When I was little this used to be the most magical place to me because it’s pretty big and offers a lot of places to hide and I feel like I discover something new there every time I look. Plus they have the coolest most unique tree I’ve ever seen.

I took my little baby Idgie with me but my grandparents have two dogs as well. One white and one black scottish terrier. They are the funniest little guys. Just look, aren’t they adorable?

It’s been so nice to just get away from everything and slow down. Not worry about life. Not having to constantly please everyone. It can be so hard to balance uni, living in a different country and making time for family and friends. Sometimes it just gets really exhausting and all you want is an escape. The past few days have been my much needed escape and I’m feeling a lot happier now. It’s been so great to relive some happy childhood memories and to just enjoy life. Getting up in the morning and knowing that you’re going to have a fun day, spending it with people you love without any pressure, is one of the best feelings ever. Before I felt like I had run out of energy and I was just tired all the time but now I’m full of ideas and energy again.

We went out to town a few times to just sit down in a restaurant, have a nice meal and just talk and catch up on stuff. Instead of watching TV we spent our nights sitting outside with a glass of chilled white wine playing fun games we used to play when we were kids. For once I haven’t really been texting many people. It’s not like I’ve been ignoring my friends but I haven’t really participated in any of our whatsapp group conversations. Whenever I was in the Netherlands and they were making plans because they all still live close I always felt like I was missing out but, for once, I just let go of that as well. As selfish as that may sound but I’ve been focusing on just enjoying the moment and doing things that make me happy. I’m already going back home on Friday and I kind of don’t even want to. I feel like I’m in this little happy bubble right now completely separated from everything else in my life. I know I’ll have to get back eventually but I feel like it’s going to be okay because I know my battery is now recharged and it’s time to get back to reaching for the stars and working on my goals as well as spending time with my friends.

Oh and look at my new suitcase, you guys! I totally adore this. I was in desperate need of a new suitcase, especially since I’m going on a 2 week trip to England soon (Whoop whoop). Also I kind of have some plans of going abroad again next year but those are just plans in my head, so we’ll see about that.

I know I’ve been venturing out on this little blog of mine lately and posted more lifestyle posts but I really like writing those, so I truly hope you guys enjoy them as well. But don’t worry I already have a list of beauty related posts written down in my little notebook. I just have to type them up once I get back home. For now though I’m going to make the most of the few remaining days I have left at my grandparents.

Lots of love,

My Essentials For A Long Car Ride

  Hey guys!

Today I’m sharing my essentials I just need to bring with me when going on a long car ride. Why? Because I’m about to go on a long car ride to my grandparents. Unfortunately I hardly ever get to see them because they live so far away but this weekend we have this family event. It’s my grandma’s brother’s wife’s birthday. Wow, this sounds so complicated but it really isn’t.

Technically I’m not really related to her but she’s the wife of my mom’s uncle. My grandmother and her brother live right next to to each other so obviously I’ve known his wife ever since I was born. I like family events but  have to admit I’m not looking too much forward to this particular event. I hate to say negative things about family. It just makes me feel mean but let’s just say that part of my family is a little hard to deal with. They are the kind of people that always gossip about everyone and they just need to know everything. So you better not tell them anything too personal unless you want the whole town to know cause that’s the kind of people they are. And they always compare their grandchildren to my brother and me, which is so pointless because we are completely different. Anyway… I don’t want to go on with this because you guys probably couldn’t care less. I’ll just somehow have to get through that party tomorrow Yay!  At least I get to see my adorable 3 little great cousins from Denmark and my godfather. There’s light at the end of the tunnel.

Okay, moving on to my car ride essentials. This is my beloved backpack. It got this one in March for my 19th birthday because I’ve been wanting one for the longest time now. It’s just a regular EASTPAK U.S.A backpack  in the color Savy Squirt, I believe. I really love the color because it’s a mix between blue and green – my faves. As you can tell I’ve been decorating my backpack with a bunch of patches. In general I’m more of a girly girl but I kind of have a geek side to me which explains the Batman and Captain America patches cause they are my absolute favorite superheroes. Other than that I’ve added some patches from places I’ve been to. I really wish I’d started this earlier because I’ve already been to a lot of places but oh well. Now I have an excuse to go back, right? The Britain patch on the right still needs to be sewed on but I’m doing that this weekend. Originally I wanted a London Underground one but when my Best Friend went to London a couple of weeks ago and she spotted this one with the bulldog she though this one was more fitting. What can I say? She knows me well.

The first thing I need is my MacBook. Don’t judge! I just need it to write blog posts, write in general, edit pictures or watch a movie or my fave tv shows. My little Mac and I are inseparable. I know it’s sad but whatever. Deal with it, people! As a total contrast to technology I always bring my notebook to write down blog post ideas or to make lists of things I still need to do or stuff I want/need to buy.

Next up is my medicine and my make up bag. Medicine bag sounds so serious but it’s really just some painkiller, something against stomach cramps, stuff for my contacts, bandaids and things like that.

Of course I always have to keep my make up bag close. The is a really small one and all I have in there is my Mabelline Matt Maker powder along with a travel sized kabuki brush, an essence mascara, some EOS lips balms, Fit Me concealer, Lush lip scrub, solid perfume and another lip product. Really it’s not that much. One thing I also like to bring with my is this mini sized body lotion in Ginger Morning. I know it’s body lotion but I use it for my hands because it smells so refreshing.

One thing I also take with me is gum. I feel like most people do that. I don’t even chew that much gum but I always have a pack with me. In the case I might loose my contacts for whatever reason or have to take them out because they are irritating my eyes I ALWAYS bring my glasses with me. Since it’s summer and the sun’s actually out I’m taking my sunglasses with me.

I hate having my big wallet with me when I’m traveling, so I usually just take the important stuff out and put my wallet in my suitcase. My wallet’s just filled with receipts and so many customer cards to all these stores, it’s just so heavy. Hence I like to carry my cash in this tiny little wallet. For my driver’s licence, debit cards and my ID I have this cool little Vera Bradley wallet/phone case thingy. Basically you can out your license in the clear from pocket and then you can open the case and it has room for credit/debit cards, your ID and some cash. It also fits your phone. It’s pretty awesome when you’re going grocery shopping or to a friends house because it fits all you need and you don’t have to bring a purse.

For the entertainment part I bring some good ol’ books. I’m currently reading Vanish by Tess Gerritsen, which is a thriller and it’s pretty darn good. Since I’m currently learning Dutch I’m also taking the first Harry Potter book in Dutch with me. I love music, so I NEED my iPod, so I can listen to all of my fave songs. Wuhu.

Sure thing, I always have my phone with me. Like, who does’t? It’s just nice to be able to chat with your friends over WhatsApp and Snapchat and it’s great to be able to check my Pinterest, Twitter, FaceBook and Instagram. Geeeez, I’m a member of way to many social platforms. It’s terrible, isn’t it?

Lastly these are some more basic essentials. I think a brush, deodorant and some Anti bacteria hand gel is pretty self-explanatory. Okay, I love knitted oversized sweaters and I get cold super easily. Today it’s one of the hottest days of this summer but I’m sure it can get cold over night so I need my favorite oversized sweater. It’s the most comfy piece of clothing I own. It’s just freaking huge and it’s a dark green, which is one of my favorite colors. Another essential is fuzzy socks. Who doesn’t love fuzzy socks? They are so so so soft and comfy. They’re an absolute travel essential for me.

Alrighty guys. This is what I need when I go on a car ride for several hours. What about you?

Sophie :)

My Going Out Essentials

I love going out with my friends but whenever I do there are certain things I just need to take with me because you never know when you might need it, right? I really like big clutches because they you can fit so much more in them. One of my current favourites is this bright pink one. I like the color as it goes with a lot of my clothes and I just love the size of it.

One thing I hardly ever leave the house without is powder. Usually my make up stays on pretty long and luckily I don’t have oily skin so I barely ever need touch ups but you never know so I always carry powder with me. My current favorite is the Maybelline Matt Maker Powder. Whenever I wear lipstick I always bring the lipstick I’m wearing that day with me, so I can reapply it when necessary. Another thing I’m currently loving and that I take with me when I go out is the Body Shop White Musk Libetine Solid Perfume. This stuff smells amazing and the packaging is the cutest.

I’m pretty sure every girl does this but wherever I go I always bring a brush. My beloved Tangle Teezer comes with me at all times. I just love it. Another thing I always have with me is some hair ties and bobby pins and gum of course.

Last but not least I bring my cute little wallet. I just got this very recently while in the Netherlands but I know it will become one of my going out essentials because it is so tiny and perfect to carry around cash. Plus it is super cute! Obviously I have my phone with me at all times. Another thing I like to have with me is this little mirror, which is perfect for reapplying lipstick. I love the old fashioned design of this mirror and it is really special to me because it used to belong to my great grandmother and this is the only thing I have left from her.

I guess this one is kind of obvious but of course I always have my keys with me. Yes, you’re seeing that right. I have a knee joint key chain. Pretty darn cool, right? I got this from my dad, who got it at some congress he went to and I think it’s really funny. I’m sure I’m by far not the only girl guilt of  this but I hardly ever go anywhere without some lip balm. EOS are my faves at the moment. The last thing I ALWAYS have with me is anti bacteria hand gel. I just cannot go anywhere without it especially when I know there will be a lot of people.

So this is it. These are my going out essentials. What are yours?

Have a lovely day!
